Subject: Ork Models as "Kroot"?

Anyone have a problem with the idea of using orks, (possibly blood axe ork kommandos) as counts-as kroot in a tau army? I'm thinking of modeling the tau themselves as high-tech humans (mostly using tau models, but converting the firewarriors heads/legs) and I don't particularly care for the kroot models/concepts. I'm also probably getting rid of my orks, but I want to keep a few around for nostalgia's sake.

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

It's really whether your opponent has a problem with it. I think it could be interesting if done right but initially it does seem a bit weird.

One of the top armies at Baltimore Games Day used a kroot biker army that was a counts as nob biker army. Just make sure that your opponent knows what it is.

The rules of Warhammer have been altering over time, but the count as rule has always been pretty solid. The way I see it, so long as it looks like the army can do what the book says it can do, your golden.
I intend using Imperial Guard Rules to build a Reble Grot army at some point and Tau rules to make a Space Skaven (aka Skavvi aka Hrud) army. I think the pulse weaponry of the Tau make a good switcharoo for Warpstone/Wyrdstone weaponry.

I wouldn't have a problem with playing against such an army, so long as you're using sensible counts-as weapons.
It would be nice to justify it fluffwise - why have these particular orks' stats changed to match those of Kroot? - some sort of mutation would be the simplest explanation for their changed BS and A etc stats, they're now shunned by normal orks, have lost their normal orky culture and technology and have joined up with your human (counts-as Tau) culture.
Or go even further and use ork models but paint/model them to look unorkish - the simplest option would be an unusual skin colour (e.g. orks painted in human flesh tones look particularly creepy) and some simple modifications like removing/trimming ears?

This kind of blanket 'counts as' can be really good and it's in the original spirit of 40K. It needs to be done as a conversion and alternative painting project, like earlier posts have mentioned.
I personally wouldn't be worried about fluff justification. I would just need to know which Ork/Human figures corresponded to which actual Kroot/Tau statlines.
