So, last night I wandered into my
FLGS and watched a few of my friends play the newly released FRAG! gold edition. It was so much fun to watch, I had to join in.

It is, as they say, a computer game without a computer. You have a board with rooms, corridors, spawn points, teleporters, and resource spawns. You have a dry-erase card with three attributes: Speed, Health, and Accuracy. You distribute seven points among the three attributes in any fashion you wish, but you must spend at least one point in each slot, and no more than four. The number you assign to each attribute is the number of dice you roll when you use it. So if you put three dice in speed, you could potentially move up to eighteen spaces when your turn comes.
It is your turn. Roll your speed dice- say you roll a seven. You mark seven on your card, then start your move, each square a point. Keep track of any resource (goodie or gun) spawn points you move over, because at the end of your turn, you get to roll a
d6 for each, and on a 4+ you get to draw from the goodie or gun decks. At any point you may stop and shoot another player, using your accuracy value to see if you hit. If you hit, you roll the weapon's damage dice. If you are using, say, the flamethrower, you roll 6d6- and mark off a round of ammo. You get an 18. He rolls his health, say he gave it two points, so he gets to roll
2d6; he rolls a 6. 6 goes into 18 three times, so you hit him for three health (+1 'cause you used a flamethrower!); he only had two, so he dies and drops all his stuff, and you can pick up one item of your choice. You got a frag! Then you move on.
Your dead buddy rolls a
d6 to see which spawn point he comes in at, then rolls for his movement, and play continues. He has his pistol, but he'll probably want to spend this turn running across as many gun spawns as possible... .
There are nifty things like light & heavy armor, adrenaline packs, special abilities, and all sorts of different weapons, including such golden oldies as chainsaws and nukes. The rules are simple and easy to learn, and getting fragged doesn't mean you are out of the game.
I went back today to buy a copy, and they were sold out.
