ok here is the deal. I have a clear coat spray that I have been using on my minis and it has been working fine.

I just sprayed my trukk with it and it has turned WHITE . ::blood veins in Stumps head are clearly about to burst::

One good thing came from this as my loving sibling laughs at me. I have learned that once upon a time he actually sprayed gray primer on a finished product thinking it was clear coat . I have made no such mistake and trust me I only have black primer and the clear coat.

::couple of deep breaths to regain myself::

Now has anyone seen this and if so is there a fix or does it just need to go into the Simple Green trukk wash.

Is the Trukk made of Resin or the standard GW Plastic? If it's FW Resin that may be -why- it happened, though it's just a wild guess.

There was a thread on this same exact problem , there was a solution that worked perfectly.

Unfortunately i forgot the poster's name to be able to use search. But he has an anime style avatar with sisters of battle.

She was a GW trukk sealed box and all.

I had a faulty can of varnish that sprayed bubbles all over a figure I had just finished painting for a competition.

Environmental conditions can afect the performance of paints and especially sprays.

It may be possible to find a solvent for the varnish which won't affect the paint underneath. You need to check what kind of varnish and paint you used.

I always test any type of spray can I use before using it. While you are shaking (stirring is better) prime the nozzle by spraying at a standard 8-12 inches onto cardboard. You can also keep a spare bit of painted plastic, such as the blisters some use as painting trays. Priming the nozzle will also help avoid spatter.

This is just a good precaution to take, these problems just happen when you are using cans.

The thing that caught me by surprise is that I have tested it and it worked fine on my minis.

And it is still white.

And the solution that solved the problem ( tested and worked )

Dude you are going to ruin your model if you keep listening to the goons on here. Water... Zip Kicker... Oh my gosh.

Seriously there is a very easy fix that will return you model completely back to normal. Well I don't know now that you put water and zip kicker on it.

I have had many o' models turn "dusty", "milky", "frosty" whatever. I live in Cincinnati and we are all about humid here.

Anyways, if your model ever has this happen, stop and take a deep breath. Allow the model to dry for 24 hours in a climate controlled (air conditioned) room. Then spray with a gloss varnish and again allow to dry completely, again in a climate controlled environment. Finally, spray with Testors dullcote and allow to dry in a climate controlled environment.

This works perfectly. I have turned the blackest black almost white with varnish, done the above, and had it return completely to it's original form.

Varnishes hate humidity. Not just the hot kind either. Any kind of moisture in the air is gonna f@ck up your model.

I will post something in the morning. I did not take pics of it in its whitish glory but I will show pics of it when it turns out ok just to show that this works. I have all the confidence in Luna. If not I shall blame it on Luna somehow.

I've had the same happen in patches, on a small mini you can just paint on matt varnish for the same recovery effect

i bought a can of what was called "Klear Coat Matt varnish" fecking thing went on liek PVA glue and dried gloss!! >_<
i still havent found a good matt spray varnish yet, ok Purity seal is ok but it give a satin finish which is ok i guess.
but when your doing the technique of "glood varnish to give a tough coat then matt to level it all back down to a nice dull finish" it doesnt work that way.
On a side note if someone in the UK knoes of a good matt varnish drop me a line

Testors Dullcote is what I use, and it's quite excellent. I know a lot of people use it. I'm not sure if you can get it in the UK though, but I think you probably can. I'm sure there's at least something similar on the market.

I usually hit finished models with a coat of Glosscote first, for extra protection, and then hit them with the Dullcote to kill the shine. It's worked well so far.

Actually you could have just sprayed the testors dull coat on it directly and it would have removed the white. The "white" that you speak of looks like a white mist correct? GW's Matt always used to do this to me so I always followed it up (after it was dry) with testors dull coat.

The problem you may have in Europe is I remember a post a few weeks ago stating that due to Toulene in the ingredients the EU would not allow dullcoat in europe and testers was working on a new formula.

Matt varnish usually needs lots of stirring/shaking. The matting agent tends to settle out during storage.

Great memory on the disaster recovery djphranq and Lunahound!

Someone ought to do an Article on varnishing and include the disaster recovery.

Well, here is the pic of what I got this morning. It is 100% better then it was last night. Not a very good pic but you can see the white parts that are left. There are also very faint white parts left that look like I dry brushed it with white and very fine white specks all over it that you can barely see. YOu can also see on the chain that it looks like I might have dry brushed it with white as well. The bed of the trukk is not as bad as the picture shows but still has specks all over it. All in all I am pleased with it today. It was almost totally white last night. I will probably just leave it like this and call it even.

If you spray to close you will get this (especially if you see a puddle of sealer) and matts have to be shaken hard and long ... Humidity can make em haze like that but they will also haze if at the bottom of the can. The Dullcoat will cover that up with one coat.

*Screams in horror

This isnt exactly necro ( not sure )

but my august's batch of orks are all messed up as well!!!!

granted i always use 2 types of varnish to coat my minis ( glass coat followed by tamiya dull coat ) it has never gone wrong.

hopefully this is just bad luck because its raining and freezing outside atm.

Will recoat them again when the weather is ok , and see if that helps!!!!

one way i fixed this happening with another game company.. i gloss coated it till it went clear and then matte finished it.. it wont get rid of all of it.. but it will hardly be noticeable.. although since you painted it.. you will always see it.. the reason this happened is cause of humidity and possibly a bad batch of sealer.. if you cant get rid of it.. throw some snow flocking on there and make it look like a colder version of its self..
