I'm still pretty new to the game so I would like some opinions on this list for a doubles tourney I'll be playing August 1st. Good? Bad? Ugly? The guy I'm playing with is also playing Ork's, I'll post his list too.

Here is the list I'll be playing

HQ: Big Mek (1#, 40 Pts)
1 Big Mek @ 40 Pts
Choppa; Slugga; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!; Bosspole; Mek's Tools

Elite: Lootas (10#, 150 Pts)
10 Lootas @ 150 Pts
Defffguns; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!

Troops: Boyz (24#, 144 Pts)
24 Boyz @ 144 Pts
Choppa & Slugga; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!

Troops: Boyz (25#, 165 Pts)
24 Boyz @ 165 Pts
Choppa & Slugga; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!
1 Boyz Nob @ [21] Pts
Choppa; Slugga; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!; Bosspole

Total Roster Cost: 499

And here is the list that my partner is going to be playing.

HQ: Big Mek (1#, 95 Pts)
1 Big Mek @ 95 Pts
Choppa; Shokk Attack Gun; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!; Mek's Tools

Elite: Lootas (10#, 150 Pts)
10 Lootas @ 150 Pts
Defffguns; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!

Troops: Boyz (30#, 195 Pts)
30 Boyz @ 195 Pts
Big Shoota (x3); Shoota; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!

Heavy Support: Kannon Battery (6#, 60 Pts)
1 Kannon Battery @ 60 Pts
Kannon (x3)
6 Gretchin @ [0] Pts

Total Roster Cost: 500

The other teams are going to be pretty mixed, it's not going to be all space marines on the other side of the table.

heh, your opponent takes a great risk with the shokk attack gun... that thing is mainly for fun, but that's his prob

you got your chance to knock out the kannons with your lootas, just put them out of his range... on the other hand, he's also got the lootas, and if he decides to concentrate his fire on your footsloggin' units, he will shoot you to pieces (30 shots with lootas, 10 hit=10 dead boyz out of 48... +min. three dead from kannons, that's alltogether 25% loss, repeated once more and you are in big trouble)

i would try 2 lootas squads and have just one 30-man boyz squad.. it's that probably all armies at 500pts try to stuff at least 1 tank/anti-infantry unit, your boyz are very vulnerable

No no, the other list isn't my opponent, he's the other half of the 1000pt army for the doubles tourney We're playing together against other teams.

I HATE when people list special rules and mandatory wargear in their army lists.
A much more eye-pleasing format:
[x] points
[x number] [unit name]
- [upgrade1]
- [upgrade2]

For example:
70 points
6 fire warriors
- Shas'ui

Maybe its a 'sound of their voice' thing... They like the sight of their typing.

sorry, got completely lost

ok then, but your opponent should substitute the kannons (or lootas) for something with armor, you do not have anything to knock out av14 tanks that IG will probably field
also, giving the mek KFF is ideal for footsloggin' orcs, as it gives them very nice 4+ save without upgrading them to 'ard boyz

you should discuss the armor thing with your partner, killa kans give you kind of a firepower, and are extremely cheap(and can do something in cc)
battlewagon would be awesome, but then you would have to take 2 mobs of gretchins as troops to fit in your points, but consider this as well

I was thinking about giving my mek KFF since my troops are going to be the ones charging the enemies front lines. But I'm still pretty new And I was also thinking about throwing some Kan's in there too. Not sure I really have the time and money to make those changes right now, I still have a crapload of boyz to paint by the 1st of next month.

I did ask my partner about some of this since he is a much more experienced player than I am but he didn't really respond. As for IG I think there is only one or two guys that are going to be playing IG, so hopefully we won't have to deal with the AV14 tanks.

So although I'm not really that happy with the list (it was recommended by my partner, and I asked for a recommended list) I'm still going to play it, so maybe I should be asking for some good tactics when playing

Mek with KFF gives a +5 cover save to ground troops, nothing specail considering you can put them behind anything bigger than a lampost and get a +4 cover save

Meks with KFF usually go with Mechanized lists, if your foot sloggin i would suggest a warboss. Lootaz are good light anti-vehicle but to take out the bigger stuff you will need Power Klaws, Warboss on a bike would be a fun way to do that (granted you give him some support)

Personaly i like this outfit for a Warboss

Warboss
PK, Squig, 'eavy armor, shoota/skorcha Kombi Weapon)
110 Points

A little pricy but throw him into some assualts and he can dish it out, some people dont like the one shot a game skorcha but it can soften up a squad really nice.

Edit:
I personally feel its mandatory for just about every squad of boyz to be led by a Nob with a PK, for an extra 35 points you give your unit the chance to take out vehicles in assualts, that Nob can be pretty hurtful with that PK.

They say the Emperor protects; tell that to the Orks.
