A wierd situation came up today.

Player A was tank shocking a Carnifex to gain position on field. Player B "death or gloried" and destroyed (6 on roll) Chimera. Player A deployed his squad and asked what they could do. Move? Shoot? Assault?

Player A thinks squad can deploy out and move, shoot and assault (providing no rapid fire shots fired), because they didn't voluntarily disembark. I said I'm unsure. We were looking at page 67 of BRB to figure this out.

They can't move, because the vehicle moved for them already.

They can shoot, as youre always allowed to shoot.

I would say they can't assault. I would think that you'd just follow the rules for disembarking. Disembarking isnt defined in the rulebook, but its the only term given for leaving a vehicle. The fact the vehicle isnt an assault vehicle takes the assault phase away from the unit the second you moved to tank shock.

I think a sticky situation would be something like a land raider getting destroyed. This one seems a little more obvious.

Since the vehicle moved already, the disembarking unit is not allowed to move further in the movement phase.

Beyond that, assuming the unit disembarked from the vehicle's access point (and did not make an emergency disembarkation) there are no additional rules preventing the disembarked unit from shooting in the shooting phase but they would not be able to assault because they disembarked from a (non-open topped) vehicle that turn.

My thought, but BRB is very vague. It does say unit disembarked from vehicle in destroyed result.

Hmmmmmmmm, OK, I'll throw a monkey wrench into the works. The damage result was an exploding 6, right? Well, only a 5 (Destroyed-Wrecked) states that the passengers disembark. A 6 (Destroyed-Explodes) states otherwise, pg 67:
The surviving passengers are placed where the vehicle used to be and then take a Pinning test. Sooooooooo, since they didn't "deploy", they can assault, right?

im confused here, not by the rules, but why an IG player would tank shock a carnifex with a chimera, then charge the carnifex with his guys....

Ummm, I can see both actually. Tankshock to get past or around it to the objective. And my IG have killed carnifi in HTH on several occasions.............. And assault for the same reason, to get to an objective and at least contest it.

But only because it moved. If they disembarked before it moved that turn they could assault.

The word disembark isn't used in the destroyed result because there is no longer a hual to measure 2 inches from. The vehicle moved for the tank shock therefor the units can't assualt.

And since the word disembark isn't used, they haven't disembarked................ Ergo, the no assault after disembarking from a moving non-open-topped transport rule does not kick in.

He did it to contest or possibly control objective. Obviously, it's not something to do often and expect good results.

Yes, the whole thing about "it doesn't say disembark" is the question at hand. BRB is very vague and we always search for ways to undermine the rules,
