I brought a 1500 pts list.

But the Tao player only had 1200, so I chopped off a tactical squad with razorback (295 points) and the EA from the
LRC.
His list was something like
Shas'
el with 2 retinue
2 firewarrior squads, 1 in a fish
1 crisis suit team (3 models)
1 stealthsuit team (3 models)
1 broadside
1 hammerhead
1 piranha
Annihilation/Spearhead was rolled. I won the roll and chose to go first.
I took the corner with the ruins in it, knowing that the big rock formation would block
LOS from the hill.
Gogo crude diagram! I put down the
LRC between the Ruins and crater close to the middle and the 2 rhinos and landspeeder behind that (and using the ruins a bit) for cover.
He deployed everything between the rock formation and his long table edge save the crisis suit team, who were hiding behind the rock formation. The could see and shoot out from it due to a small tunnel in the middle of this rock formation.
First turn
SM:
LRC moves 12" towards the rock formation and pops smoke. Landspeeder goes up the middle in the area between the craters. Rhinos follow behind the
LRC for cover goodness.
Tao turn 1: The broadside shoots at the
LRC and destroys it scoring a 6 on his penetrating hit with the railgun. Next the hammerhead destroys the landspeeder! Both 4+ cover saves were failed, and he scored an immobilized result on the speeder - which had moved flat out on my turn. I was actually thinking it was going to go bad fast here for my
SM. The emergency disembark from the terminators is fine, and they disembark as close to the rock formation as possible.
SM 2: The terminators move towards the crisis suits behind the rock formation. The 2 rhinos sit still to try and use their
ML. One stunns the hammerhead but the piranha escapes fine. The terminators assault the crisis suits and are barely in range. This means that not every terminator will get its attacks, but they all make it through the tunnel in the rock formation and out of
LOS of most of his guns. Only 3 terminators were close enough to get their swings in, and kill 2/3 crisis suits losing no one. He make his morale though (I was hoping for this) so we stay engaged.
Tao 2:Everything tries to move away from the terminators that are basically now right at their lines. He pumps alot of fire into both rhinos, managing only to shake both of them! In assault his last crisis suit is killed quickly and the consolidation move guarantees me a multiassault in the next turn.
SM 3: The rhinos move up and pop smoke. The terminators advance towards his
HQ and the hammerhead. Both get assaulted, and I pile most of the models on the hammerhead hoping to leave something alive in his
HQ squad. It works, and his
Hq is all that is left at the end of the battle. One terminator fell there.
HQ passes morale check.
Tao 3: Sleathsuit team arrives from reserves but scatter horribly, and are lost. The only real target he has are 2 rhinos. The piranha moves up right in the front of one and misses but the other one is shaken by the broadside. His
Hq falls in assault, and I consolidate towards the broadside.
SM 4: The tactical squad disembarks from the rhino and assaults the piranha while the terminators take care of the broadside. Broadside dead and piranha shaken & immobilized. Terminators consolidate towards the firewarriors in the fish.
Tao 4: Disembarks from the fish and rapid fires at the terminators with his remaining 2 squads. Two more terminators dead (3 + libby left)
SM 5: The piranha is finished off by the tactical squad while the other destroys the fish with its
ML from inside the stationary rhino. The terminators annihilate the firewarriors.
Tao 5: He has a single unit of fire warriors left, and resigns.
Total victory for the
SM
.
Reflection: Although I lost the
LRC and landspeeder early, delivering the terminators to his lines was all it took. The rock formation hindered his deployment because he had to either go behind it and not get
LOS, or come closer out in front of it. So the one turn of moving the
LRC was enough to get them in assault on the 2nd turn. This was amplified by him not losing squads in a single round of combat to open the terminators up to be shot. The terminators did 90% of the killing. Oddly, the rhinos were able to withstand more firepower than the
LRC.
