Hey All,

I just inhereted alot of Eldar models that my close friend decided to get rid of and I liked the idea of a new challenge. This is my first attempt at a non-MEQ army. So far I've gone out and added a few more units but I am scheduled to play a few friendly games with some buddies over the course of the next few weeks. I am willing to spend a little more money but here is my most basic of 1500pt list attempts.

In my first game that I played a few days ago, my brother fielded his orks. I pretty much had annihilated his forces by the end of turn two. There were no more orks left to kill by the end of turn 3. So i figure since my next game is against 'nids, I shouldn't switch my list up that much. Here is my list so far.

------------------
HQ:
- Avatar
- Farseer (eldrad model)- no upgrades...I like him fine the way he is. (he was filler to hit 1500pts anyway).

ELITE:
- Howling banshees (x10), exarch, mirrorswords.
- waveserpent, TL-Sh.Cann & Sh.Cann
***throwing the farseer in Serpent w/ the banshees

TROOP:
- Rangers (x5), all pathfinders
- Rangers (x5), all pathfinders
- Dire Avengers (x10), exarch, Pistol&DireSword, bladestorm
- Guardians (x10), Sh.Cann, Warlock, Conceal
- Guardians (x10), Sh.Cann, Warlock, Conceal
- Guardians (x10), Sh.Cann, Warlock, Conceal

HEAVY SUPPORT:
- Wraithlord, Wraithsword, Sh.Cann, 1flamer
- Wraithlord, Wraithsword, Sh.Cann, 1flamer
------------------

This list is pretty basic, I know. I only own 30 more guardians, 10 more Dire Avengers, 2 autarchs, 5 firedragons, a Vyper, and a Falcon gravtank. I like to make sure that my pts/model is relatively low, but the army still stay effective. I also don't mind spending some more money, God knows I've dropped enough on this hobby over the years, but I'm just not a fan of dropping a ton of cash on Wraithguard that I don't really think I want to use.

Any suggestions where to build from here. Alot of my friends/competitors have MEQ armies, but most are now moving on to different things ('nids, orks, guard, SOB). Any other ideas for competitive eldar builds? Any responses would be helpful!

Thanks.

No upgrades on your Farseer?!?!?!?!?!? As in no spells? You know you have to buy them? Woah, thats all that the Farseer is for, guide your most killy unit and doom the unit that you most need dead. Its not very wise to have just one vehicle in your list, ANY anti tank your opponent has will be able to focus on it until it dies, either take a lot of vehicles or none at all; after seeing your list I would suggest no vehicles at all.

As far as expanding your list goes, I would suggest start running your Farseer as the intended Eldrad, he is simply sublime, once you try him once you will never go back. If you want to continue down the path of a foot slogging list I would suggest investing in either Harlequins or Scorpions instead of the Banshees, they are much more survivable from ranged fire due to Veil of tears and Infiltrating respectively. If you are headed for a more mechanized approach then start fielding you falcon too and add more wave serpents (for your 2 Dire avenger squads first) and then Fire prisms for heavy support. As an aside Rangers are a nice tough unit for holding objectives but they don't do much damage, especially against MEQ's.

I'd suggest either taking Eldrad and dropping the Avatar completely, or if you really want to keep the Avatar just give the Farseer Doom, Guide, Rune of Witnessing and Spirit Stones. Its a pretty safe set up meaning you can cast 2 powers a turn and role 3D6 and choose the lowest for them.

ELITE:
- Howling banshees (x10), exarch, mirrorswords.
- waveserpent, TL-Sh.Cann & Sh.Cann
***throwing the farseer in Serpent w/ the banshees

As mentioned above, Banshees dont survive well in non-mech lists due to their T3 and no invul or cover saves. I'm not sure but I think if you take Scorpions then the Avatar can join them and outflank with them, which would be rather cool.

TROOP:
- Rangers (x5), all pathfinders
- Rangers (x5), all pathfinders

In 1500 points you dont relaly need 5 troop choices, so I would suggest dropping one unit of Guardians and giving the 2 remaining bright lances instead of cannons, and changing the warlocks to embolden to keep the unit from fleeing for longer when they inevitably get shot. The Avenger exarch is begging for 2 Catapults instead of Diresword, goes too well with bladestorm and with the farseer setup i mentioned earlier. Pathfinders are AWESOME!

HEAVY SUPPORT:
- Wraithlord, Wraithsword, Sh.Cann, 1flamer
- Wraithlord, Wraithsword, Sh.Cann, 1flamer

Only thing here is I'd swap the shuri cannons for scatter lasers (Extra shot on troops is always good)

I tried to maximise the list youve already chose rather than change everything around
Not sure if this helps, but I hope so

Lose the warlock with conceal. 5th edition is cover heavy.
Combine the 2 5-man rangers and think about upgrading to pathfinders.

If you don't use eldrad, you at lease want a doomseer.

You have absolutely NO good AT in your army except the avatar and the witchblades of the farseerand warlocks. BL for the two wraithlords or a unit of reapers with exarch packing EML or Firedragons. Warp spiders can do it too except against the AV14 monsters.

If you want avoid mech eldar, 1banshee unit ina waveserpentis really hanging in the breeze. I would leave that at home and maybe invest in a boat load of warlocks. Between two wraithlords and a full warlock council you have a tough hitting CC unit that can multi-charge any vehicles, MCs, termies... just then go Eldrad or get the fortune, doom seer build out.
