Hi Guys

I wasn't sure what title to give this post, so I hope I don't disappoint anyone. Hell, I'm not even sure if this is the right sub-section....but here goes.

I need your advice.

I was playing a 1000pt game yesterday, my Smurfs vs my mates Necrons. We got to a point where my 10 man assault squad were caught in CC with his Tomb Spider and two Scarab Swarms attached to his Tomb Spider squad.

My Assault squad go first and I score 13 hits on his unit. Now the Tomb Spider is Toughness 6 and the Swarm is Toughness 3, he has 3 wounds left over the entire of his swarms and a full 3 wounds on his Tomb Spider. I ask him where he wants to allocate the hits so we can work out wounds. He suggests he wants to take all the hits on his Swarms.....

....Now heres the catch: If he allocates all 13 hits on his swarms, I'd be working out the wounds against his toughness of 3! In theory, if all of the hits score a wound, he can only cater for 3 wounds!! Lets assume he doesn't make a 5+ save, then according to him I've killed the Scarabs 13 times

Is this correct? I argued that if he allocated all the hits to his Scarabs, and all 13 hits wounded, and then he lost the 3 wounds, everythig else gets an automoatic wound on the Tomb Spider....if not I would have to roll to wound again, on the remaining hits ( say 10 ) that had in theory already caused a wound....

Sorry of this is very confusing, but theres nothing in the Rules that states how to allocate wounds to units different toughnesses.....

HHEELLLLPPPPP!!!!

Well I'm pretty sure that in CC you can choose who you allocate your wounds to... Not sure if this is correct but I think it is...

The overall toughness of the squad is T3 as that is the Toughness value with the highest majority within the group (P19 of the BGB)

Theres nothing special between the swarms and tomb spyder (Im assuming thier in the same squad here) so he has to get his 13 hits and allocate them equally amoungst his squad. So that means four hits on each model with one model instead taking 5 hits.

He cannot allocate all 13 hits to his swarms. It is illegeal. Read P25 of the BGB, Under complex units. Its quite clear.

Cool, some advice to you/your friend \/

Now what he should be doing is keeping those swarm/spyder combo's down to ratios of 1:1, where he only makes one swarm at a time - if its killed, make a new one but never more than one.

That means, as per the rulebook - there is no majority, use the highest Toughness. So that unit has now essentially has more than doubled its total wounds! (albeit 3 of those wounds are still vunerable to template weaponary). Plus those 3 wounds (@T6, not T3!) are ablative & regenerative... it doesnt matter much if the swarm if killed - the spyder is still just as useful & the swarms can be regenerated (at little risk).

Thanks for that piece of tactics.....however, as a Marine player, I will NEVER allow such tactical information into the enemies hands

Haha, fair doos.

Sadly, with that kind of attitude, you'll get whopped by some one like (me?) or whoever.

My point is, come up with a few of your own trump-card tactics, tell your friend about the scarab tactic & so you will play harder mor difficult games. You'll get better, he'll get better, you'll have more intense games (and hopefully more enjoyable games) and then you will eventually be able to come up to somone (like me? ) and whoop my ass

Just my 2 cents

LoL....oh I do have some tactics which seem to work, and....I'm willing to take on all players.

However, I see the value in your statement, and what the hell, I'll pass on your wisdom to a fledgling Necron Lord....

In the end, for me at least, its less about winning, and more about having a laugh.....and truth be told, in true paradox fashion, I intensely dislike the Imperial Marines, so if they get their arses handed to them, well....why not?!?

All kinds of places at once

Tomb spyders only have 2 wounds, not three.
