I'm still pretty new to the game, so help/comments are greatly appreciated! I chose Dark Eldar as my second army (after Space Marines).

HQ:

Archon (Agoniser, splinter pistol, combat drugs, shadowfield, plasma grenades, gruesome talisman)= 135pts

Elites:
Grotesquesx9=135 pts

Mandrakesx8=120 pts

Troops:
Warriorsx10 (2 dark lances)=100 pts

Raider Squad (5 warriors with 1 dark lance)=105 pts

Heavy Support:
Talos=100 pts

Transport:
Raider=55 pts

Total: 750pts exactly

Well, I play DE since the 2nd edition came out.

Grotesques and Mandrakes are mediocre units and usually not taken in competitive games. But they have their uses.
Grotesques should be led by a Haemonculus. Otherwise, they suck.

Sniper units (10 Warriors with 2 dark lances) can provide a decent fire base - these units cost 100 pts.

Raider squads can be the back bone of a DE army. But you need 10 men squads, with blasters and Sybarites.

The Archon is correctly configured; however, the hell mask is not mandatory.

Well, I'd replace the Grotesques by Wyches unless you plan to field a Haemonculus.

The Wyches should have wych weapons, 2 blasters, and be led by a Succubus with agonizer, trophy rack.

Just curious, as I am still new to this army and the game, why is a Haemonculus vital to the grotesques? Maybe I'll get a Haemonculus, and replace the mandrakes with Wyches.

Greetings,

The Haemonculus (or, really, *any* HQ unit - though due to their price and nature Haemy's are usually chosen) is 'vital' to the Grotesques because of the 'Stupid' special rule. If you have a Haemy or some other HQ in there smacking them around you get to ignore this effect and have your Grotesques perform better...or at least to the maximum of their capability. At least with your seeming plan of running multiple sniper squads you'll probably be well served by the Grotesques working to tarpit any assault units. That said you can definitely spend your points better then on Mandrakes and the Wych plan is a good one (though they can really use a Raider). wuestenfux offered a pretty solid equipment load out if you do go Wyches.

Also, as far as your list goes, considering the quality of the DE Troop choices and how important they are in 5th edition I think you'd be better served by dropping some of those expensive Elites and perhaps just investing in some more troops (presuming, of course, that you have the models for it). You might also wish to consider downgrading the Archon to a Dracon - you'll get basically the same unit but save 25 points for doing so. In a 750 point list 25 points is nothing to sneeze at. Also, if you have the model, I'd try to drop at least two Raiders, as only one Raider will have a huge target on it if your opponent invested in any sort of anti-vehicle weaponry with long range (if he invested in meltas he went overkill, and you should be able to stay out of range and shoot lances into him anyway.)

Finally, as a shameless self-promoting plug, I'll suggest you go check out the Dark Eldar Tactica here on this site which I recently posted up. You'll find more discussion of various squad build options, some explanations about why stuff like Haemonculi should travel with Grotesques, and hopefully some useful looks at wargear and tactics.

Hope some of the above is useful and welcome to the best race to have a lot of pointy spikes on their heads.

Regards,
Thor.

Yeah, this looks like a decent list.
The Dracon is a bit naked, but Toloi do a better job in cc than he anyway.

Just a tip no-one else seems to have mentioned-the Gruesome Talismans are obsolete and do nothing in the current game. Remove them.

I really like that list, and the idea of using a dracon instead of an archon in a smaller point army is great!

With such small points I wouldn't bother with Raiders, because all they're going to do is get blown up on the first turn. AV10. I agree with this list:

Dracon,poisoned blade,splinter pistol = 40 pts.
Warrior squad x10 x2 dark lances = 100 pts
Warrior squad x10 x2 dark lances = 100 pts
Warrior squad x10 x2 dark lances = 100 pts
Warrior squad x10 x2 dark lances = 100 pts
Talos = 100 pts
Talos = 100 pts
Talos = 100 pts

Although I would drop a couple of things to fit in a Ravager w/ 3 Disintegrators.

The 'fail' would be in not noticing that this army list is from 2009...
