It says on pg 39 of the codex "five models can fire from the chimera's top hatch. in reality, several are firing from the fixed lasgun emplacements along either flank, but for simplicity we assume all shots to be taken from the hatch."
Does this mean that vets with their plasma guns cannot shoot from inside the vehicle, because all those shots are made "in reality" on lasguns built into the hull? If they cannot shoot their plasma gun do they put it down and shoot the fixed lasguns?

You can fire whatever you want from the chimera hatch. Three lascannoneers can hold their guns outside the hatch if the chimera doesn't move.

"five models can fire from the chimera's top hatch."

that's the entirety of the rules regarding it, the rest is fluff, pretend the second half of the statement doesn't exist and you will be playing it correctly.

Also keep in mind that although it very fluffily talks about using hard-mounted weaponry (if you really WANTED to use the hull lasguns, that is) it is still the embarked squad firing, not the chimera, and so are subject to the vehicle movement rules on pg.66

On a related note, I'm going to model my next chimera with Lascannons flanking the hatch. For reality's sake, of course.
