Hello all! Sheevra here! I wanted to share with all of you the pis I took of one of my Carnifex's to show you all my Desert Hive color scheme! he's not completely finished though, I left my finished one at my bf's house. <=) I also have photos of the Reaper mini I bought to be Sheevra my hive's queen a.k.a. Broodlord. XD I did some work with greenstuff to make her look more like a Tyranid and not a sea creature like she actually is lol.
So, I hope you guys can kind of make out these pics, my camera is full of lame sauce and I apologize.
I think he's the CUTEST THING!!! XD
and here's Sheevra, Reaper's mini "Slithe Queen"
I hope that I didn't screw her up too much, but I wanted her to look for Tyranid-ish somehow, so I thought adding scythers and making her a Tyranid tail would help. Although the problem remains that she has feet and not hooves. <=/
Thank you for looking and tell me what you think!

I can -kinda- see what you're aiming for, but I'm not quite visualizing it 100%. Picture's pretty fuzzy, and the unfinished nature of it makes it hard to say. Think maybe you could get a clearer pic? It's just hard to comment on it when it's blurry.

agh yes, I know it's TERRIBLE quality. I'm gonna try and use my bf's camera the next time I see him and hopefully his will make it a better pic.

Right on, be glad to take another look once you've got a clear shot up there. One question though - If you're going for a desert scheme, why did you go with dark blue for the carapace? Or is that just your basecolor before starting on the progressive browns?

well, the base color was black and then I dry-brushed it with Desert Sand. now that I look at it on here, I see it does look blue.*sigh*

Well, from what i can take from the photo, the bone colour looks good as there is an obvious highlight on the bone, unfortunately i can't see the carapace well enough to make the details out. good luck painting!

For the Carapace, Might I suggest trying a progressive series of browns? Starting with something dark like Bestial Brown as your basecoat, then drybrushing using a lighter brown for every level of the progression. Each layer would be "smaller", where your base would cover the carapace, and then each shade after that would just focus more and more on sharpening the raised areas.
Alright, that was a terrible explaination Hopefully you can understand my nonsense though, as I think it would look really good on your bugs

From what I see, You have a good start for the carapace if it is in fact black.Maybe it is the lense?
