I'm considering starting a Catachan army (standard IG, just with the Catachan minis), but the standard infantry models are pretty awful. Is there a reasonable way to make a Catachan army that has decent-looking infantry?

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

I haven't bought a thing.

I had the metal ones from the original run (like, the original boxed set) and really liked the basic troops. I may end up going with them, but the lasguns are different. I either want uniform lasguns, or a wide variety of lasguns.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

Stick with what you like then, the metal models are still relatively easy to get from ebay - you'll end up spending more though, and collect a lot more slowly, but it's better too not compromise if you can help it.

And if yo umake all your trrops choices veteran squads (as is appropriate for catachans) you won't need too many models.

You can always kitbash the standard catachan infantry squad boxed set with the new command box, heavy weapons box, and Warhammer Fantasy Chaos Marauders (although they fall into the over muscled category as well - I don't like the over muscled look).

Forever alone

The Command Squad box has more reasonable muscle shapes and sizes, but it's only 5 dudes sadly.

The metal ones are your best bet.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Its pretty easy to file down the arms of the platic guys ot a more reasonable size. The muscles are so over done that shavin off a couple mm doesnt hurt the definition at all.

The command squad and heavy weapons team boxes are wonderful. It's concievable to make an army out of nothing but command squad boxes, as they have the proper contents, but the whole army will cost twice as much.

Alternately, mix and match with Cadian kits?
