So, another year, and another ‘Ard Boyz tournament in the bag. I am still not in the top three, but I feel good about how I did and how well my list did.

The Game:
The Chaos player was obviously not that experienced. He had a good game plan, but didn’t think out his list. He wanted to put his sorcerers in the rhinos with the plague marines, but forgot to make them less than ten men. He instead left them on foot behind his rhinos. The Berserkers were mounted, but they didn’t have that much impact on the game. He never even brought his Obliterators to the table. I think he just forgot about them. The game was pretty much over for him by the second turn when his land raider and the terminators inside were toasted by heavy bolters and my vindicator. He couldn’t move fast enough to take any objectives from me and I was constantly moving against him. I won this game with a Massacre result and 3 bonus points.

The Game:
The board was set up with all bunkers for the terrain. We diced for whether the bunkers were just terrain or actually bunkers. We decided that only the center 4 bunkers were actually bunkers at AV 14. I won the roll for who deployed first and went first. I placed two tactical squads in bunkers and put my captain in with one. I was bringing everything on at the start, nothing in reserves. Lysander walked on with the ten man terminator squad, I mounted one tactical squad and mounted the assault termies in the land raider. He brought his vindicators on first turn, but didn’t hurt the bunkers. What saved me, was that his army came on the table piecemeal and not where he wanted them. The land raiders carrying the terminators came on from the far side of the table, and were pretty much out of the fight. I managed to kill only one of the vindicators all game. I killed all his bike squads with shooting and follow up assaults. Khan died to Lysanders’ Fist of Dorn. <Fist to the Head>! I managaed to keep both my HQ’s alive, but I lost a lot of kill points to his shooting and meltaguns. I managed a Tie in this game. It was this player’s worst game of the day. He went on to win our Tourney.

The Game:
Probably my worst game of the day. I won to set up and go first. I wanted to hurry to the objectives and sit on them, hoping my stubborn Imperial Fists could hold. I put Lysander out front with the 10 man terminator squad backed up by the Land Raider with assault termies safely inside and the Vindicator in the center. I knew his nob bikers would and could assault their first turn, so, I just shot the snot out of them. But when the smoke cleared, I had only felled one and wounded another. Ouch. My tactical squads were moving brilliantly toward the objectives. Then his turn came. Shooting fells 3 of my venerated terminators and immobilizes my Vindicator. The Assault was worse. I lost another 2 to powerklaw attacks and managed to kill the wounded one. Now its Lysander and 5 termies vs 6 nob bikers. His other units move up and don’t do much. I think its here that I lost it. The player I was against is my nemesis outside of the tournament arena and I constantly get pounded by his horde. I just wanted to kill all of his bikers, and suddenly that’s what I shifted my focus to instead of just using the terminators to slow them down and get my other units on the objectives. I dismounted the assault termies and threw them into the fray. Now I outnumbered the orks again. But the thunderhammers had no power. I killed one more with Lysander’s strength 10 hammer, but failed to even wound one more. I lost 3 in return. And then Ghaz dismounted from the battlewagon carrying 18 slugga boyz and joined in the fray. I was severely outnumbered now. Within another 2 turns, Lysander was all by himself and eventually brought down by the slugga boyz. I did manage to put a wound on Ghaz, but too little too late. The Vulcha boyz destroyed the razorback carrying the captain…who promptly killed them all. The Kommandos came on and destroyed a tactical squad inside their rhino, covering all the exits. At the end of turn 4, which was all we had time for, I had no objectives and he had 2. He had more kill points ( by about 6 or 7). It was a rout. My Fists were totally defeated and the Orks were just getting warmed up. The Ork player went on to take 2nd overall. We were tied for third going into the match. I ended up 8th overall with this Massacred result.

The Winning Armies were the Khan led Space Marines in 1st, the Horde of Orks in 2nd, and Chaos Space Marines in 3rd. So I played against the 1st place and 2nd place players and eeked out a tie and got massacred. The Chaos Marine player who took third had a heavy dreadnought and obliterator list from what I saw as I watched him play. Dark Eldar were in 4th place I think.
