Well, I've just been up my local GW spending my ill gotten gains on some luvverly Imperial Guard for my fledgling force.
And whilst I was there I took the time for the usual Hobby based frothing with the Manager. Not only did he show me his really rather spanky Reaver Titan (bit smaller than I expected, but brilliant model all the same), but he showed me a pet private project (mmm...illiteration!) of his. Namely, a resin cast Imperial Knight Titan.
It was pretty cool. A tad blocky for my tastes, more reminiscent of the non Mars Pattern Warhound, with the head oddly resembling a Grey Knight. He'd made three weapon systems for it, one of which was a Vulcan Megabolter spread over both arms (so one barrell on each arm) a Battlecannon arm and a Chainsword/fist/thingy/hackyslash weapon.
Sadly, despite having the moulds, he can only make them for entirely personal use due to IP (GW are aware of these...more on that later) so is unable to offer them for sale.
However, being something of a Hobby side nutcase, he is on good terms with Will Hayes, sculptor of the Forgeworld Titans. He has shown Mr Hayes his efforts, and Mr Hayes was particularly taken with the end result, and suggested my local Manager design them properly. As in Forgeworld release....
So from this, it seems entirely possible we might be seeing the Knight Leagues coming out at some point in the nearish future. His initial design, whilst an impressive feat for an amateur, isn't exactly Forgeworld design standard, so it might be some time before they are ready for release, but hey. I know quite a few people are keen to see them, so I thought I would share!
As an addendum, we of course got round to discussing rules and roles. Being an fan of old Epic, I've always seen them as weighing in somewhere between a Leman Russ and a Baneblade in terms of firepower potential. I suggested 2 shot Battlecannons, Twin Linked Punisher Cannons, and perhaps Titan Close Combat Weapons.
Now please treat this with the usual wariness. It's about as confirmed as a rumoured project can get without seeing them popping up at Gamesdays, but of course that is no guarantee it will come to fruition overall!

Sounds nice enough, though even if it's taken into FW production it might take two or three years before we see a result.

Not especially up on Forgeworld techniques and lead times I'm afraid, so can't really add anything to that one.
But hey, if it happens, I think my IG will receive a squadron of three as allies. Always need more Dakka. And if that Dakka comes with stompy legs into the bargain, so much the better.

Heh, for all we know they might get it ready to go by the next Imperial Armour book(Orks v. Elysians wutwut).
But it would take a bit of time, as they do things properly and wait to release it alongside of a good, solid set of rules rather than rules then rush a model out.

FW now more or less works like GW, their projects aren't as random as they used to be, but instead with a "purpose", that being Imperial Armour or the next big GW release as a supplement of missing codex entries.

Though Knights strike me as the sort of thing that can be dropped into pretty much any Imperium V Anyone book.
Doesn't have to be an army in it's own right, just a contingent sent to aid the effort due to particular terrain restraints.
As for Vs Orks, well, Knights traditionally herded the Megasaurs, so perhaps they would come in handy for breaking up Squiggoth Formations?

What do Knights actually look like? The Mechanicum novel description they struck me as over-sized bidepals with a locomotion system not much unlike Eldar war walkers, only less fragile, sporting two arms and an angry head with a crotchy spirit to match.

Pretty much. Managers model was roughly twice the height of a Dreadnought, with better proportioned legs!

Those are particularly old models. Newer ones were made for Titan Legions, which looked less, well, cartoony!

Paladin 1 and Paladin 2 resemble the last range of Knights. They're about Stompa sized.

Wasnt FW looking for sculptors? Maybe this guy will get a job there.
A reasonably sized and priced Titan would be a refreshing addition to my Inquisitor army.
One day Ill build up the courage to make that huge 4 foot tall titan....one day....

Knights would be a good idea for current apocalypse games. A poor mans titan indeed and a good way of adding in a big walker weighing in at the 300-400pt mark.
I wonder if they will remember Eldar had knights too.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

Could make for a nice super-heavy option for Space Marines, perhaps? With GW tossing out a Stompa, this seems like a logical move for Marines, but I could just be overly hopeful.

Traditionally, the Knights tended to be deployed with Titan Legions and Techguard, as an answer to Landraider type threats, so they may not turn up as a Space Marine option as such.
Of course, it doesn't matter a jot in Apocalypse!

SM need a super-heavy, so these might fit the bill as an easy plastic kit. Just an idea, even if they are not 100% SM exclusive.

They have the Thunderhawk. Marines aren't exactly the sort of force which needs geet big lumbering stuff. Rather than slowly grind you down, they are more about a run up at your Nads before you know they have arrived.

Knights rock!
Their elimination when Space Marine/Titan Legions morphed into EPIC 40K was another nail in the coffin of that game for me...
Knights in 40K Apocalypse would be a lot of fun, I think.
