guys i'm going to run out an old blood with Blade of Revered Tzunki and The Maiming Shield just wondering what everyone thinks about for a mount. I was going to do just a cold one but my friend is kinda swaying me towards a carnosaur. Any suggestions? Is the carnosaur worth the extra points or is it better to go with Kroq-gar?

Carnosaur!!! I would keep the salamander (I think you could drop some skinks, you have a lot!) but you should Definitely put that carnosaur in there instead of a cold one imho

Personally, if you're going to take the carnasaur, take the blade of realities. Yeah, it's expensive, but there isn't a multi-wound model in the game that isn't worried about fighting a strength 7 mount that does d3 wounds and a lord who forces leadership tests every time he hits and if you fail, you auto-die. Also, there is almost no close combat unit capable of generating enough wounds against a T5 rider and T5 mount to kill both of them in one round, meaning they'll have to choose between eliminating either the rider or the mount not both. And either one is very capable of dealing with heroes, other monsters and ogre sized creatures.
1) shoot the snot out of it. (not viable for all armies and not dependable)
2) frenzy it and lead it off into difficult terrain somewhere with a bait unit and avoid it for the rest of the game. (only viable for armies with access to either high mobility assets or throw away units)
3) stick a large rank and file unit with great weapons into it. This unit will definitely need your general and a BSB nearby or at least be stubborn. (very few armies have stand alone units that can fill this role, forcing your opponent to commit a disproportionate amount of his army against countering 1 model)

Swordstorm Saurus are also viable. 9 S5 WS6 and 5 S7 WS3 attacks make for a great mobile one-Model army.

It's, in essence, a Saurus that has a crapload of attacks.

I don't know the exact magic items, but I know it involves the Maiming Shield and the Sword of Battle (I think, I played lizards under the last 'dex, so I'm not familiar with their new stuff.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

oldblood an carno with:

sun scimitar
maiming shield
carno pendant

thats 8 str 5 attacks from the oldblood (9 when he frenzies) and 4 str 7 attacks from the carno (5 when he frenzies)

so in a perfect world your belting out 14 attacks total, pretty scary.

Since I play against a lot of DE these days, I tend to faster, cheaper mounts. That said, I'd kit out the old blood with the Burning Blade of Chotec (flaming attack, -2 to armor save) and the Sword of the Hornet (always strike first). Add the caronsaur pendant and you're looking at hitting first with 6 S5 hits at a minus 4 save, 7 when he goes all frenzied and 4 S7 hits from the carnosaur, 5 when frenzied.

Being that I play usually away from GW shops, where rules aren't enforced quite as much, I've never considered that I couldn't do that. I always read it as any magic items up to 50/100 pts.

man i wish that was the case. but yeah 1 magic weapon 1 magic armor 1 etc. my nearest GW shop is more the 50 miles away, and i havent been inside of one for a game in over 10 years.

Also you can't get the bonus attack for a magic weapon and a hand weapon.

yeah, the main rulebook's your friend.

I agree, swordstorm saurus is fun. 9 WS6 S5 shots will chew up the RNF tarpits people will try to trap you in, while S5 is still enough to ravage heroes and T5 monsters. Naturally, the carnosaur is equipped (and designed!) to rip things apart: tougher, the better. Dragon Ogre Shaggoth? yes please! dragon? if it's not a star dragon, YUM! if it is, maybe...

Remember also, Carnosaurs are no longer large targets: screen your 450+ point killing machine with a 70 point unit of skirmishing skinks, and you're immune to bolt throwers for a turn or two, more than enough to hit the lines. Or throw him in a unit of saurus cav and watch your 20 S5, 5 S7, and 5 S4 attacks blow people out of the water

I like the sound of this swordstorm saurus, I might have to run one in the next game I have.

I hadn't realised just how many attacks they can put out.
