Im getting some Plague marines soon and im trying to figure out how to go about painting them i was thinking..

-for armor
Basecoat of chaos black then paint the plates Catachan Green
then drybrush either camo green or rotting flesh over it
maybe try adding a rusting effect around the edges

-for skin
Basecoat black then paint with fortress grey
drybrush skull white over that
add add some Dark flesh and maybe baal red wash for a dirty blood effect

Am i on the right track? any suggestions, tips, or even just pictures would help me a ton
Thanks Dakka

i havnt spent much time using washes, i have a couple but i never really got into the habit of using them...they just seep into the deeper spots and stain around it right?

i'll experiment with the washes i have over the next couple days while i wait for my marines to come in

If you can find it I highly recommend "chestnut ink", it made a world of difference when I built my Death Guard.
The problem is,I belive GW has discontinued their line of inks in favour of their "washes",however devilin mud and gryphonne sepia can be used as substitutes for chestnut ink,or you could perhaps find a brown ink wash from a company other than GW..
Basicly the steps you need to follow are simple
basecoat black.
catachan green.
drybrush with camo green
wash with wich ever wash you use
second light drybrush of cammo green
armour trim with dark flesh or beastial brown/same with weapons
light drybrush cammo grenn/rotten flesh mix 50/50
second wash
desired metal color on armour trim ( I used tin bitz),do not cover all your brown.
boltgun metal drybrush (light) on weapons
very very light drybrush of rotten flesh,go very easy or your mini will look to light, just build up till your happy with the effect.
After this, paint any details in desired colors (hoses, cables etc, markings etc).
Hope some of this helps.

Chestnut ink is indeed a GREAT ink. I STILL have a bottle..... I sleep with it under my pillow

the washes are great. Devlan Mud and Thraka Green will become your best friends.

There are many excellent "nurgle" threads in the P & M section. Most give a list of paints and steps.

Check out phillpowell, cadaver, nemmisary, (and a bunch of others whom I can't remember).

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

take care

I actually sent Cadaver a PM earlier yesterday because i was curious on how he painted certain things, i'll browse the P & M section for some tutorials

Ive been messing with the washes more, if i like where the washes put the color, but want it to stand out more, should i just keep going over it with the wash until its as dark as i want or should i just add more regular paint into a mix? sorry for the n00b questions

Gathering the Informations.

If you want a lighter, more plagued basecoat...

Use Gretchin Green, then follow it up with Rotting Flesh highlights and a Gryphonne Sepia wash.

Heres a tutorial.
If you dont want to do the white plague marine look do up to the green bit, still looks amazing.

WOW guys thank you so much both of those will help a lot!

I will probably use some tricks from both for my models, i will have to get more washes!
regarding the first tutorial i never thought you could get such dramtic effects using them like that, to get that look i would have to base coat then drybursh over it which takes forever
I'll keep them both at hand, if anyone has any more great tutorials and pics i would really appreciate it!
