Hey all,

Been awhile since I've been here, good to be back. I've been out of 40k for some time now, just after 4th came out. I'm getting back into the swing of things with 5th and getting used to the newer rules. Also getting familiar with the last CSM codex. There is a local tourney coming up and I'm thinking about playing, and looking for some help.

I have two lists I'm thinking about, one was my old World Eaters updated, and one was a Red Corsair list. I have enough Berserkers to run 1700, but if I want to go vanilla CSM then I need to convert some of my regular Marines, and was thinking I could go with a Corsair army to make that happen.

Here's the World Eaters:

Chaos Lord (145)
- Mark of Khorne
- Daemon Weapon
- Personal Icon

Chaos Lord (140)
- Mark of Khorne
- Combi-Weapon
- Powerfist
- Personal Icon

Dreadnought (105)
- Plasma Cannon

Dreadnought (100)
- Extra CC Weapon

Terminators x 4 (255)
- Autocannon x 1
- Chainfist x 2
- Powerfist x 1
Terminator Champion
- Mark of Khorne

Havoc x 5 (160)
- Lascannon x 1
- Missle Launcher x 1
- Heavy Bolter x 2

Berserkers x 7 (233)
Skull Champion
- Powerfist
- Personal Icon
Rhino

Berserkers x 7 (233)
Skull Champion
- Powerfist
- Personal Icon
Rhino

Berserkers x 8 (254)
Skull Champion
- Powerfist
- Personal Icon
Rhino

Minor Daemons (Khorne) x 5 (65)

1690

Very straight forward list. Has the least amount of painting and conversion for me as well. Strategy is as you would think, run the 3 rhinos (2 w/ Lords attached to 9 man berseker squads) with the 10-man in front to draw fire. A bit of firepower from the Havocs and the Plasma Dread from the rear. Look to get the rhinos and lords across the board to drop the Termies deep. Look to rip the guts out of everything once there. Daemons eat up some spare points, and I have 5 Khorne Daemon models...why not.

Problem I have with this list: Well....I have little idea what the meta is like these days, but from the army lists I see here, theres a lot of mechanized armies these days, and I don't know that this army would do well against that much armor. Also model count is kinda low, and I think I'd have a tough go against horde armies.

The second list is a Red Corsairs army:

Chaos Lord (145)
- MoK
- Daemon Weapon

Chaos Lord (140)
- MoK
- Combi-weapon
- Power Fist

Dreadnaught (110)
TL Lascannon
Missle Launcher

Dreadnaught (105)
Plasma Cannon

Raptors x 7 (215)
Asp. Champ
Power Fist

Berserker x 8 (208)
Skull Champ
- Power Fist
Rhino

Berserker x 8 (208)
Skull Champ
- Power Fist
Rhino

Marines x 8 (160)
1 Asp. Champ
Power Weapon
1 Missle Launcher

Marines x 8 (170)
1 Asp. Champ 15
- Power Weapon 15
1 Lascannon

Marines x 8 (170)
1 Asp. Champ
- Power Weapon
Heavy Bolter

1701 pts

This army has a much higher model count and more firepower, but gives up a fair bit of H2H punch. I'm tossed up between them, and I have no idea what to expect at tournies anymore. Anyone have any suggestions or insight into the general meta these days?

Thanks.

Dreadnoughts aint competive, and neither are beserkers, look around dakka some great khorne lists about.

Your khorne theme makes it hard to come up with a competitive list. I'm not even sure if you can really make a great great one. However, here are some critiques/suggestions.

Don't give HQ's the khorne demon weapon because it's too risky and may not allow you to attack. Also, don't give them powerfist. It's the initiative you want anyway. Anyone else can have a powerfist. Basically, to fix both of these just make both HQ's demon princes and give them warptime (though that's not khorne-"y")

Get rid of the dread's, they just aren't that competitive and they are they have a high risk of killing your own guys.

For the termies just give them a chainfist and a maybe two powerfists. Replace the autocannon with a heavy flamer for cheap. Don't upgrade to terminator champion either.

Never give havocs mixed weapons. It's better not to even use havocs with heavy weapons. Give them special weapons such as melta or plasma instead. Or just use chosen to do that job.

Ok, so there's a lot to say. Most importantly, if you still want to be khorne-like them I suggest doing a land raider rush.

- Just get berserkers and throw them in a few land raiders.
- Get DP's with warptime.
- Get defilers with 2 cc weapons

I hope that helps. Just be sure to get as many land raiders in there as possible. Land raiders are good for khorne armies because the berserkers can disembark and assault on the same turn since they are assault vehicles.

Don't play Khorne. Simple 'nough. The new codex is written to mix and match, and you're not doing anyone a favor except your opponent by gimping your list. Remember that regardless what fictional gods name is printed next to a fictional power, you can pretend/model it to be another ones.
