Well, I've been playing since '99 and have remained a n00b ever since then. I didn't play many games in 3rd Edition... Mainly against Space Marines... We didn't know how to play. Completely n00bed it up. I used to play against nothing but Necrons in 4th edition. Got constantly killed. I never bothered to think strategy or caring about Winning... I just wanted to play, and therefore I always lost. I really need to start with the basics. Is there a general topic about IG strategy and effective army building? Is there a specific IG place to put Army Lists? Or would they go with all the others?
But here I am in 2009, I don't want to new army, but I want to start winning... I'll be asking lots of questions and need LOTS of help. Suggestions are always helpful. Please PM me if you'd like. 
Also, I'm a budding Sci-Fi Fiction writer and wish to start building stories books around the Regiment I'm building and trying to start role playing. You can see my various writings if you're interested on my website... http://uberpocky.com

Welcome to Dakka.Post your list questions and so on in the 40k army list section.Also perhaps start a topic in the general 40k discussion about different effective IG builds.I have no experience myself in list building,perhaps some tank spam.Or if you really,really wanna win start playing Daemons,lol.

Thank you for the advice, however, I've already lost a few times to Chaos Daemons... And I think I should be able to beat every race right? This should be a relativity balanced game..... I hope :( I've heard a lot of people say "Oh? You play Imperial Guard? That's why you're losing!" That is an absolutely unacceptable answer to me.

Thank you very much! I just wanted to make sure there was no specific IG section before I started posting. I'm planning on posting my 500 pointer right now Gotta get that one working first, before moving up I'd say.

Welcome to Dakka ZeroOP.
At my LFGS the champion there who has never lost with one particular army is IG. Please note, he pumps everything to the max and has 3-4 tanks in most battles.
You can win with any army. My fault is that I ussually get the theme in the way of the game, but when you field an all assualt troops BA army, WHO GIVS A DAMN!!!

 If I was vain I would list stuff to make me sound good here. I decline. It's just a game after all.
House Rule -A common use of the term is to signify a deviation of game play from the official rules.

I got the 5th Edition Codex.. but I have to say... I miss Close Order Drill :( I really did miss the +1 leadership and the +1... I forgot what else it added. LOL, I guess I don't miss it that much. I'm starting to become more attuned to how Imperial Guard works. It's taken quite a bit of practice.
