After the Horus Heresy, Rogal Dorn of the Imperial Fists sent a company of marines under Captain Agrippa Ventrix to the planet of Charadon V to cleanse it of orks who had assaulted it. Soon after landing, a warpstorm trapped them there.
After 100 years of seperation and a grinding war of attrition with the orks the warpstorm cleared up and the 300 survivors returned to the Imperium. There were many rigorous tests to go through to prove their loyalty to the Emperor and this along with the fact that the legions had being split into chapters bred unrest in Agrippa's company. They were allowed back into the chapter but they were malcontents and caused trouble. Imperial Fists are naturally stubborn but Agrippa was more so.
After one too many altercations between Agrippa and the other company captains, Dorn offered him an ultimatum; lose his rank and have his 300 men split into the other companies or form a new chapter. Agrippa felt that his primarch had betrayed him and swore to prove his worth to his primarch by fighting harder than any other chapter.
He called his chapter the Imperators of Dorn and set off in his battle barge, defiance, back to the planet of Charadon V which had once again being overrun by orks.
Th last humans had barricaded themselves into the space port and had refused to surrender which impressed the Imperators. After 3 months of hard fighting, he had pushed the orks back to the last city when the ultramarines 2nd company drop podded in and took the glory of killing the warboss. Since then Agrippa has held a grudge against the Ultramarines.
C and C welcome.
More tommorow.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Agrippa made Charadon V his chapter planet and gave began building a huge fortress-monastery named the Forlorn Hope. The surviving PDF were inducted into his new chapter and within ten years the Imperators had 5 full companies and 2 companies of scouts which were awaiting power armour.
They had also gained a reputation as rulebreakers. On one occasion they had disobeyed direct orders to withdraw and instead kept on fighting until the remaining citizens were evacuated.
There was another famous occasion detailed here by Captain Dormov of the Iron Lords chapter:
It was during the victory celebrations of the cleansing of Teniss when medals were given to the commanders who had fought. Also present was Captain Octavian of the Ultramarines 5th. Captain Octavian was furious at Chapter Master Agrippa after he had called the ultramarines chapter, "a load of toy soldiers more concerned with looking good than getting the job done."
Everyone was dressed in their finest uniforms and Chapter Master Agrippa had not turned up. The Tenissians were sticklers for rules and traditions and they considered this an insult.
Suddenly, a drop pod crashed through the beautiful stained glass roof which was a gift from the Emperor himself and 10,000 years old. It had survived countless riots, 12 wars and a chaos occupation. Needless to say it did not survive its encounter with Chapter Master Agrippa.
Chapter Master Agrippa strode out, his armour covered in dust, blood and mud.
"Lets get this over with." He stated.
He seemed surprised when the Tenissian nobility drew their weapons and started chanting HERESY.
Captain Dormov was wounded 2 weeks later in the Tenissian Revolt which started for unknown reasons after the victory celebrations.

They were also getting a reputation as tenacious ruthless warriors. The chapter was gifted 5 Land Raiders, 20 Predators, 100 suits of Tactical Dreadnought armour, a battlebarge and 50 Rhino's after the Liberation of Kollus, an adeptus mechanicus forge world. The Defiance had been badly damaged in the space battle.
Under Agrippa's orders the batle barge entered the atmosphere, flew over the defence networks and smashed into the enemy headquarters. The entire chapter leapt out and assaulted the shocked enemy. The Chaos commander was so shocked he didnt resist when Agrippa roundhouse kicked and beheaded him.
After the death of their leader, the chaos fled and the planet was in Imperial hands. While he was reprimanded by the Munitorum for risking his entire chapter, he won great kudos with Mars.
His veteran first company was equipped with terminator armour but Agrippa refuses to wear it. He reportedly said that it made you slower than an athsmatic ant with heavy shopping.

Drop podding through a stained glass roof that was a gift from the Emperor would be heresy and Agrippa would be executed by the Inquisition without a doubt.

He probably would have been executed, but he is a chapter master and the people who thought it was heresy are probably all dead.

I love that part apart drop podding into the building. Talk about GATE-CRASHING!

I love it! And yes, it sounds a lot like Angry marines. But if they were so angry at Dorn, why would they call themselves the Imperators of Dorn?

He wasnt particularly angry at Dorn, he wanted to prove himself and his marines.

He also could have just claimed the window was damaged during the war and the inquisition would probably let him off because of his hundreds of years of service.

After numerous incidents, an Inquisitor was sent to determine their loyalty and investigate an incident where a Sergeant Valon led his men on a revenge mission and left a gap in a defensive line which led to the deaths of 6 astartes.

Inquisitor Bale was unwanted in the Imperators chapter and this was made clear. There were many arguments. The Sergeant was not handed to the Inquisition for execution, instead he was judged by the chapter council, which was made up of 5 veterans, a librarian, a chaplain and the Venerable Dreadnought, Brother Agathon.

He was sentenced to exile. He was to be left in the Charadon badlands which is a maze of caves, montains and ravines infested with brigands and orks. Usually this was used for training purposes. Scouts would train here by told to kill a certain amount of orks or brigands. To prove they had killed them, they had to chop off the dead enemies left hand and bring it back. Or they could be told to plant a bomb at a certain point or reach an extraction point.

Sergeant Valon was left in the middle of the badlands with no power armour and only 3 days supplies of food and water. The only weapons he had was a boltpistol with 1 shot and his combat knife. If he still lived after 10 years then he could return to his chapter but if he was seen before then either out of the badlandsor in them he would be shot.

This infuriated Inquisitor Bale who wanted to execute the sergeant but he had being punished instead by the chapter. There was no proof of heresy and many battle honours so the Imperators Of Dorn were pronounced not guilty. Even so, Inquisitor Bale recommended an Inquisitor to be with the chapter at all times but due to manpower shortages this is unlikely to happen.

Next up, a rundown on the chapter's organisation and training.

Sounds cool. The drop pod was great. The only criticism I have is that "Imperator" in Latin means "Emperor", although in the Republic it meant "Commander" so in effect they are the Emperors of Dorn or, if the Empire of Man was a republic Commanders of Dorn. Prateors of Dorn or Consuls of Dorn still hold that Latin/Roman/Imperial vibe

During the Roman Empire, "Imperator" still meant commander, but it started to refer to the highest level commander; and thus was always the Emperor.

If a member of the army called someone else "Imperator", it would pretty much be a declaration of rebellion against the current emperor. (Also, there wasn't really a word in Latin for "emperor". The emperors had a whole bunch of titles, with "Imperator" being the most famous (and probably the most important), so that's why "Emperor" comes from that root. This is all according to Wikipedia, of course, so I'm not sure how iron-clad any of my info here is. )

So then wouldn't the guys in the chapter start blasting one another for heresy? Actually, the word Caesar was the "true" word for Emperor. That's where we get Kaiser and Tsar from. Orky is far easier; "Da Boss"

It looks like Caesar, Imperator, and Augustus all came to mean much the same thing near the end, just with different roots.

Caesar was the bloodline, Imperator was the rank, and Augustus seemed to relate to his personal greatness.
