Greetings from northern california.

I first got into W40k about oh, 8 years ago when a friend introduced me to Battlefleet Gothic. I was hooked from that moment. after a few years building and playing my Imperial Navy i decided to get into warhammer40k. I bought me the 3rd edition box set and the SW codex and then that was it. The GW store here went out of buisness. My buddy who introduced me to BFG bought a chaos SM box set before the store closed and opened the box only to get stuff lost. 5 years that box was opened and untouched, i finally relieved him of his box set only to find a bunch of stuff missing. oh well. Unfortunately he was the only person i Knew who had 40k and i was never able to motivate him to play. So ive never got to play 40k. 3 GW stores have come and gone since then.

An unexpected lay-off from my job has given me too much time so ive decided to try to get back into the hobby. The amount of tutorials and wonderful painted minis have inspired me. Since there's noone to war with i decided to just concentrate on painting the minis i have and practice painting. I have a few pics posted i haven't painted a mini in 5 years so its a little tough. I seem to have a problem finishing a mini all the way though, lol. most my minis are WIP. im still learning.

Dakka Dakka is a great website and Ive learned a whole lot in the past month. Im still trying to figure out the techniques like wet blending and highlighting. Im hoping my skills will improve in time for the new SW that are coming out in Oct. I think with the great community here and the help they offer ill be able to improve.

Well thats my experience with 40k. I look forward to being apart of the Dakka Dakka community.

Peace means reloading your guns.

hello deadratman!

The funny thing is i live in a town with 110K people in it and a major state university. The owner of the big comic book store here is starting to get and stock GW products.

He said hes gonna try and get gamers together but he sounded less then enthused about it. College is out now so hopefully in the next few months he'll be able to get something going.

Im enjoying the universe and keep busy with BL novels. ive read over 80 of them so far! I got more money into the BL novels then models and paint supplies! 95% of my bookshelf is BL novels. Its pretty much the only books i read.

Peace means reloading your guns.

Welcome to Dakka. Wish I was closer but I live Los Angeles. I have been gaming with my nephew but he has been working six days a week lately so he is too tired to play on most Sundays. I hope you find a job soon.

thanks for the greetings. Im showing off my models to my 10 year old nephew. Hes a smart young man. I got his interest peeked and told him to do extra math homework and work on his reading skills so he can start playing!

im gonna have him come over this weekend and let him paint some models up. Ive got some DE from a box set
im gonna let him go to town on.

My sister will have a cow when she finds out how much this hobby costs, especially for a 10 year old.

I only have 3rd edition rulebook. Im sure 5th edition is different but im assuming the basics are the same?

Welcome to DAKKA!!!

5th and 3rd are probably worlds apart considering 4th ed. I guess in the end they are basically the same:

Plastic army men, and a lot of dice!
