So yesterday I was walking to Chapters and I saw a Warhammer Comic book in the window of a store. I didn't have tome to go in but I wanted to know if it was real or a fan made thing it said Forge of war on the front so I assume it's the name.
Any ideas? comment?

There have been a few Warhammer 40k and Warhamer Fantasy comics out the past few years. I collected some of the first "Damnation Cursade" comics, written by Dan Abnett, BTW. Didn't buy the Fantasy books, or the 2nd "ork" focused series.
Boom studios published the books.

My son quite enjoyed them (I thought the 40K ones a bit boring, but liked the WHFB ones). More details of what they did can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boom!_Studios#Warhammer
They are not listing the graphic novels on their website so if you are interested it looks like you should grab them while you can...

I have "Only War", which contains Damnation Crusade, Exterminatus, and Blood and Thunder. I couldn't tell you much about the stories, as only the one about Orks makes any sense. The art is gorgeous though.

I've only read the Black Templar stories, which are typical Abnett comics: crappy dialog and words paired with lots of violent images to distract you from the poorly written words.

I read these threads, and wonder why so many read this junk? From the sounds of it, you people know they are pretty much going to suck, you buy hoping it doesnt, and always in the end.....it sucks

I was young and naive and thought foolishly that a Warhammer comic by Abnett would be more than just big pages of explosive art to distract from crappy dialog and poor and bland story telling.

I actually purchased for the collectivity of it. I agree the stories I read weren't that great. I also have a bunch of the original Warhammer comics, and they are fairly valuable.
And if a Warhammer movie ever comes out, they will be like gold in the bank.

The old BL comics are okay, depending on the content. I've got the collected stories of Ulli and Marquand, which are okay and Eternal Darkness, which has some gems but for the most part Warhammer comics were well, ugh in my eyes. Nice tries at breathing life into the 'verse but not that good at it.
Unless we're talking about Malus Darkblade, especially the first "series" are pretty good, with him killing his own kinsmen and father.

As a former comic book store clerk, I love Boom! Studios and anything they touch (especially their Cthulhu stuff). I actually liked the BT stories, as they focused on random aspects of the universe, not "telling a story" and you so blanket-ly put it. There's more than one kind of story telling, and it doesn't always have to have a conclusion.
