Just so you have the actual woeding the cdexs for PofTMS and Smoke Launchers here it is :-

Power of the Machine Spirit.

A Machine Spirit is a combination of organic and mechanical components that helps to control a tank's movement and weapon systems. If the tank suffers a Crew Sunned result on the Vehicle Damage tables, the Machine Spirit allows the tank to move directly ahead up to its maximum speed. Also, the Machine Spirit can operate one weapon per turn as long as the vehicle has moved no more than 6", even if the tank suffers a Crew Shaken or Crew Stunned result. This is in addition to any weaponry that can normally fire.

The Machine Spirit has a BS of 2

Smoke Launchers

Some vehicles have small launchers mounted onto them that carry smoke charges. These are used to temporarily hide the vehicle behind concealing clouds of smoke, especially if the vehicle moving out in the open. Once pre game, after completing its move, a vehicle with smoke launchers can trigger them (it doesn,t matter how far it moved). Place some cotton wool around the vehicle to show that it is concealed. The vehicle may not fire in the same turn as it used its smoke launchers, but any penetrating hits scored by the enemy in their next Shoting phase count as glancing hits. After the enemy's turn, the smoke diserses with no further effect. Note that a vehicle may still use smoke launchers even if it suffer's a Crew Shaken or Crew Stunned result.

exerts from BLACK TEMPLARS codex - vehicle upgrades.

Inb4 threadlock for posting rules w/o reason.

EDIT* by the way, the confusion between the two rules is based on codex space marine, not codex black templars.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Threads like this make me smile. No matter how bad things are going, someone else is always having a worse time.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Well, because the BT book was written with a different edition in mind. Let's say you and I are in a game. I am fresh faced and smell of Noobie-Goodness (I think that is a lemon-lime like smell) I've never played a game of 4th Edition, but I know 5th edition fairly well.

You bring out your BT force with it's 4th Ed rulebook. We are in the middle of a game when you say that are going to use the PofTMS and that you have to have5's to hit. "Nay, you are incorrect, one musteth need 3's to hitteh", I declare. My glistening chest and long blond hair blowing in the wind. "No, I have an older codex and I am considered to have BS2", you reply. My heart skips a beat, "Howst ithist this so my lord. Yonder 5th Ed SM book says that I require Nay, but 3+ to hit". You then state that, though a legal list, somethings are stuck in a different time. My heart is heavy with the grief of knowing that some are stuck with books from the past, but I then see the Imperial Truth and understand that GW can only do so much when Editions change and Codicies are left to the Fates of Time.
