After a quick peek at the site, I couldn't see any information on prizes. Are there any and if so, do you know what they'll be?
This has a few of us from the Frozen North interested in coming down for the weekend.

I've heard from the tournament organizer that the prize pool is up to about $2000 at this point, and will only increase the more people show up. Of course, that will be spread around amongst several prizes, but its a fun event.
just remember soft scores matter in this tournament... so no 20 nob biker lists ><

You are correct we are over $2000 in prizes (not counting the hand painted trophy).
One comment on the hand painted trophy. They are all being done by professional painters.
For example Bill Kim (BK army painting is doing one of them).
Here are some of the prizes.
Overall Winner: 1850 Marine army and a Hand Painted Trophy. The prize is worth well over $400
Best Opponent: Space Hulk, a Hand Painted Trophy, and paid admission to DaBOYZGT’10
Best General: TBD and a Hand Painted Trophy
Best Appearance: Custom Battle foam case and a Hand Painted Trophy
Best Sportsman: TBD and a Hand Painted Trophy

The soft scores arn't bad, looks close to standard GT, looks like everything's already posted on the site ( http://www.daboyzgt.com/40k_Daboyzgt09.HTM) as well as far as comp/painting/sportsmanship breakdown;
Total battle score 250 - 55% of total points
50 points per round divided into primary (20), secondary (15) and tertiary (10) objectives with +5 battle point modifiers.
Total Comp 40 points - 9 % of total points
25 points judged by your opponents, 15 points by the judges.
Click on the Link above to see an example of our 2009 Army Composition matrix.
Total Appearance/Hobby Score 100 - 22% of total points
50 points judged by your opponents, 50 points by the judges.
Only the top three armies will get the max score for appearance.
Click on the Link above to see an example of our 2009 Appearance/Hobby matrix
Total Sportsmanship 60 - 14% of total points
Awarded by your opponents.
I'm excited about this GT and am painting a new army up for this GT and will be the first tournament appearance of the Pink Tau!

Thank you.
We tried to middle ground with comp and army building.
You have to take good units to win, but you don’t need to take 9 Obliterator
It is cool to see units that are not typically played.
I hope you can come. We have 44 paid players signed up and we got 30 days left to the event.

The comp actually would make me make the trip, however I do need to entice my group of friends to come and split da teef wif me. I really like playing with and against well balanced armies with a good amount of points EARNED, yes EARNED for composing a fair and balanced army. Even if I can't make it, I will plan to make it next year because I love this setup you have. I love how "Overall" isn't just beating someone's face off with your army list and not with the time put into any of the other aspects of the hobby. Other countries do this well and I'm glad someone here in the states is taking the initiative. I hate that people actually think you are silly for taking certain choices, but they always feel stupid when you do something great with them because they want to shoot at the "good" targets. I love units that aren't taken often, but I like to have a balanced list. I can't wait to come over to play, whether it's this year or next!
Cheers, as they say!

Sorry just found the rubric for comp...
awful... just awful...
Time to break your system...
chaos
1 Lash prince
1 Lash sorcerer
1 Chaos undivided unit
1 Noise marine unit with blaster
1 PLague marine squad
1 Khorne berzerker squad
3 oblits
1 defiler
1 vindicator...
thats just off the top of my head....
lists you penalize....
Tau... you've nuetered them by not letting them take redundant units
sisters... well... there goes all of their long range fire support
deamon hunters... sorry... you are forced to spent 1000pts on troops.... with nothing stronger than str 6....
themed deamon lists... can't play a single god....
themed chaos... sorry your really expensive thousands sons are too themed....
seriously... if you want more troops then any other thing at your tourny. Write the missions to benefit having more troops. K?
here is one i hate...
"My opponent’s army built an army based on the theme of the relevant gaming universe and supplied background for that army
(as opposed to a force built purely for winning with little or no regard to that army’s established background)."
SOOO deamons that had all 4 gods would be punished? even tho the fluff says they can and SHOULD be mixed?
AND you can't have a pure GK force.... sorry too strong :(

and whats wrong with this list? Its fine, it just lacks any theme at all, so i'd score it lower on comp because of that. it looks like a selection of random units, but should be powerful.
lists you penalize....
Tau... you've nuetered them by not letting them take redundant units
Howso? take 3 broadsides, 1 hammerhead, 2 mech firewarrior units, 2 kroot units, HQ+battlesuit retinue, 1 squad of battlesuits, and that should put you around 1850, if you take a few more choices... maybe some pathfinders... who knows. should be fine.
sisters... well... there goes all of their long range fire support
2 exorcists should be sufficient, and don't really break the theme as long as its all sisters. and then you have meltas as a common weapon to give you some serious anti-tank. sisters should be fine.
deamon hunters... sorry... you are forced to spent 1000pts on troops.... with nothing stronger than str 6....
How do you figure your forced to spend 1000 points on troops? 50 points minimum for stormtroopers... 150 minimum for knights. again, as is stated in the comp sheet, theme > comp rubric, so if you want to do pure grey knights, exceptions to the comp rubric can be made
themed deamon lists... can't play a single god....
How do you figure that you can't play a single god? Theme allows repetition, and if your theme is mono god, repetition is fine
themed chaos... sorry your really expensive thousands sons are too themed....
I don't know how more often I can state this, theme allows repetition.
seriously... if you want more troops then any other thing at your tourny. Write the missions to benefit having more troops. K?
They do. There will be many objective based missions, and other types of mission that will let you benefit from having a mixed force.
here is one i hate...
How do you figure a 4 god chaos army would be punished? If it matches the supplied background, it should be fine. of course, of course, you'd need to represent troops from each of the 4 gods otherwise it wouldn't make sense for elites to be there as well.
AND you can't have a pure GK force.... sorry too strong :(
I'm thinking about bringing a pure GK force... and i've talked to several people involved with this tournament, and they are in agreement it would do well in comp scores. Theme allows repetition
Your system is full of fail!
You seem to be laboring under the delusion that these comp scores are inflexible. The rubric is a general guide for army composition, with the judge being allowed alot of leeway in making the calls. The only one that is inflexible is "There are more Troop Choices then any other single category?", and that one should really not be a problem for any balanced army.
If you don't like composition fine, go back to playing your lash prince - oblit spam lists, or your vulkan spam, or whatever you crazy kids are up to these days. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean its "full of fail", as you so eloquently put it.

Seems a little unfair to write a tourney off based on there comp rubic.
I am defintely going because there will be great opponent's there, and a weekend away to push mini's around and drink some beer sounds good to me!

Since they put it up early I don't have a problem with the comp. As long as the TO's are watching the comp scores turned in by the players after the game and comparing them with what they gave to make sure no one is getting chipmunked it should be fine.
I wouldn't plan on bringing tau since it probably wouldn't work out for me. This does seriously hurt a lot of Nid lists that like big bugs (4-6) but lists could be tailored a little here and there to make it different.
In fact i wish I lived within driving distance since I'd be there in a heartbeat. Seems like a fun weekend.

If I had more experience with Tournaments I'd make the drive out to the tournament. Sadly it doesn't fit into my schedule and I'd have to beef up my typical army from 1500-1850 points. Which means a lot of painting to get everything into my theme. Possibly next year I'll be prepared!
