Sacrifice to the Dark God Tzeentch
|
I have a squad of eight berzerkers including a skull champion for about 210 points.
I want to buy 12 more for 210 more points.
The thing is when playing i will have to take out a different squad when playing with my brother to make it balanced.
On the other hand though, if I do get them and have a squad of 20 the most attacks I can get with them will be 101 attacks in assault.
They get 2 attacks normaly, a extra for assualitng, 1 for close combat weapons, and 1 for mark of khorne,
champion get 1
Tell me if its a good idea to buy them or not.

If you took 20 against say a ten man tac squad; you have 80 attacks, hit on 3's wound on 3's you'll cause 35 wounds, with a 3+ save they'll lose 12, overkill!
You'll be mroe tactically flexible to take 2 squads of 10 with a fist on the champ in rhino's you avoid enemy fire, and get to where you're going to do the damage.

Khrone? Khrone? Ok, I'm sorry, but Khrone? Oh no, look out, we're under attack by crazy old women! Run for your lives! Now that I've vented my spelling obsession, 20 Berzerkers is not worth it. If you've got 20 of them, you're footslogging, which isn't ideal for elite CC units. Only a few, such as Death Company, can/should footslog, and they often have jump-packs. Take Rhinos on 10-man Berzerker squads, and put one squad in a Land Raider with Kharn attached.

I have found that 7 plus a pf champ in a transport is ideal. More is just overkill.
Rather than 1 squad of 20, run 2 squads of 8 in 2 rhinos. Put a 4th squad of 7 with no champ in a land raider with Kharn. Watch the fun begin.

The extra attack for the Mark of Khorne is already included in their profile.
So they get 2 attacks base +1 for CC weapons, and then an additional +1 for charging. 20 charging berzerkers will give you 80 attacks, not 100.

look at it this way: 9 berserkers w/ a PF champ will, statistically, kill the following on the charge:
15.55 boyz
7.55 space marines
12.88 guardsmen
4.15 terminators, or 3.41 TH/SS terminators
these numbers are all high enough to cripple the unit without necessarily routing it on said charge. Funny how that's perfect for 5e, since you want to finish off an assault victim on their turn and avoid any retributive shooting, no? Stick 10 in a land raider if you want them to be super killy, or a rhino to save some points (though watch for AP3 when you get out!)
For my curiosity's sake, let's see what the return casualties look like from the above squads, for some typical setups; this all assumes the ideal, IE charging the unit straight out of the land raider.
13 remaining slugga boyz + PK nob 3.42 dead berserkers; ouch! don't charge these suckers full strength if you want the berserkers to still kick out a big second charge.
2 tactical marines w/ a PF sarge 0.917; hope the sarge wiffs, or that he was brought down by that big pile of non power-weapon attacks you threw.
5 TH/SS terminators 4.1667; we all sort of expected some carnage from these suckers. Still, "only" ~84 points worth of casualties from the remains of a 320 point unit. I wouldn't pit 10 berserkers against 8 TH/SS terminators, but 5 or 6 absolutely.
To be succinct: 10 w/ a PF is delicious. Awesome stuff, despite it's 250 point price tag. Throw a rhino w/ a havoc launcher in and you've got a nice little 300 point package, with half-decent firepower backup from the transport.

2 squads in Rhino's and 1 in a LR will be plenty. Or if you do have to footslogg them make it a squad of 20 with Kharn and put the rest in Rhino's. The large unit should divert some or all of your opponents attention (and ap 3 fire) while your rhino's make it there safely.
