as i am yet to buy an imp dex, i was wondering if i could replace basic imp troopers lasguns with something more suiting the fluff and playing style i have and still have them table top legal? like, give them autoguns, similar stats but with half the range and rapid fire or something, im not a guard man (yet) so i dont know the stats for flashlights

you can call them autoguns but ud have to use lasgun sats. lasgun is R24' S3 AP- btw

thats fine i spose, i just had a particular weapon model in mind (see pig iron) and wanted to have them tournament legal (or at least partially so)

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

The other extreme is to make all your troops choices vets - you can give them shotguns for free IIRC.

well, they are meant to be really quick shock troops, what space marines function as but imperial guard, the force doesnt need to be big, buuut, i also wanted a unique looking army and so would convert some stuff, idk

Smallest (and toughest) IG army would be a Commissar and two Veteran squads, which would seem to suit your fluff a bit.

would seem that way, basically they would be two kasrkin squads ( or similar) but cause im yet to get the guard dex i dont know how it all works specifically

im really excited about it. apart from some things like voxes and a few upgrade options that are annoying its a very solid codex with some awesome new units. id get at as soon as possible if i were you.

In the 3rd ed codex (last one to feature autoguns as a standard weapon) the autoguns and lasguns had the exact same profile. Same type, range, S, AP.

So, you can call them autoguns - as flashlights are just as (in)effective as slugthrowers in 40k.

[of course, in 2nd ed, autoguns were preferred to lasguns but that's an older time, a time before the Jervis.]

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Yup, just use the lasgun stats, they have always had pretty much identical stats I think.

And Jervis was around in 2nd ed, he had a big hand in most of the books, if not all of them.

In 3rd was there any difference, or was it just cosmetic?

You can choose stormtroopers as an elites, and they have 18" AP3 lasguns.

Any guardsmen could be modeled with autoguns instead of lasguns and nobody would bat an eyelash, be it guardsmen, vets, penal legionaries, or conscripts.

Cosmetic, same for 2nd I think. I'll dig out my old codex and wargear book tonight to check.

If there was a differenc in 2nd it would have been a to hit modifier or armour save modifier I think.

IIRC, lasguns gave a -1 save modifier and autoguns didn't.

i agree, just wanted to make a more, idk, close range assault looking army, and lasguns are more like ww2 rifles tbh, and yeah, ill have alot of storm troopers, but i do still need 2 troops, was thinking of going with modified elysian stuff, im very fluff based concerning my army
