Ahoy, mates! I've been trying to add wings to my Daemon Prince (who isn't these days?) but I've run into some trouble. Basically, I have these really nice Reaper "Angelic Wings" I'm trying to attach, but they're heavy pewter and nothing I have tried so far will let them stick to my Daemon's plastic body. So far I've tried my normal superglue, and GF9 Brownstuff, but neither were strong enough. I'm currently trying a method where I make a separate mounting out of brownstuff, let it dry a little so it's harder, then stick the wings in and magnetize the whole lot to the model.

I figure most people will advise pinning, but I'm not sure if I can do that since I don't have a drill. Do any of you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Ya pinning is really your best option if you just absolutely cant get one use super glue and zip kicker or some accelerator to hold them in place. After that dries which should be seconds. Add more glue without the Accelerator then some green stuff to support it then more glue lol its all you can do hahaha.

Surely you can get hold of a pin vice- do you live in the middle of nowhere?

No, but I just recently spent a bunch of money on other tools, and since I'm currently jobless, I can't get any more until later. I suppose I'll just have to take it slow for now

I got mine for about £3, with 10 bits, they aren't too expensive

If you are willing to change the wings for those of a dragon (high elf?), they are much lighter. I also believe that they come with a spare set of wings on the sprue (at least that's what I was told when I was given mine). So if any people you know have some, that's an option.

Have you tried using ZipKicker? It is a catalyst that makes the glue dry within 2 seconds. The stuff is amazing. Cuts your glueing time to less than a 40secs a model. You might want to give it a try its how i got my wings to stay on my DP.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

The problem with Zipkicker is that it actually weakens the overall superglue bond at the expense of curing it fast.

Pinning is pretty much your only hope with something so heavy, with such a large pull on a small surface area. Make sure to scrape off all the old glue and putty, pin with brass rod for preference, and use a two-part epoxy glue like Araldite (The 5 minute set stuff is fine).

If you're really desperate, you can buy just the drill bit and wrap a little masking tape around the channel (for a little grip) and twist it with your fingers - it's hard (and hurts) but I've done it before when my pin vice broke and I needed to prep for a tournament. But a good pin vice is a fundamental tool in any hobby box.

There's a great tutorial video in the Articles forum on pinning, if you need guidance.

I agree, pinning is the best option but there are some really strong glues out there. I think there is some glue that binds metal really well, I use it to put together arrows for archery, can't remember what it's called though... If you can find that stuff though it is really strong!

remember to scrape the glue off after trying because

REMEMBER!

GLUE DOES NOT STICK TO GLUE!!!!

(but yeah! I'd pin it)

I'd pin it and use a 5 minute epoxy.
(depending on ambient temperature, it gives you as little as 30 seconds before starting to cure).

Ensure both sides are clean. Mix up small amount of glue. Apply to both sides. let sit until it starts to go 'tacky', then press together and hold.

Best results. Takes a bit more work, but you can't beat the bond strength with superglue.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
