I know it does not exist.....but can a Monolith be put on a flying base? I have some guy on Vassal saying it cannot be, because it is in the rules.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

The model is supplied with one, and RAW says it must be based on the base supplied with the model. So yes, you must put it on a flying base.

BRB Pg 3: Citadel miniatures are normally supplied with a plastic base. If so, they must be glued onto their bases before they can be used in the game.

GW website, Monolith description page: Model supplied with a large flying base.

My monolith did not ship with a large flying base. That must be a typo.

Well, it looks like yours wasn't packed.

Is it a skimmer?
BRB pg 71: Unlike other vehicles, skimmers have transparent ‘flying bases’ under their hull.

Standard monoliths have four prongs that extend from their bottom.
I cut them off, drill out a hole and mount mine a bit tall on a flying base.
But that processes is unnecessary to use them.

I've got 5 Monoliths that all came with the large flying base. I got them when they were first released. I only tried to use the flying bases once, and they all broke. they didn't really make it much taller anyway. However i know that they do not come with the bases anymore. It's one of those things that the flying base stands are just too small and weak to actually be used, so i don't know anyone, even myself, that actually puts them on a base.

A new day, a new time zone.

I've bought three monoliths over the past four years and none of them have come with a flying base.

The land of cotton.

I have big foam dice that makes my Monoliths as tall as the flying stand would. It fits perfectly under the four prongs previously mentioned and is tons more stable.

Has never been an issue though as the 'lith is rarely assaulted.

Yeah, apparently some ship with flight bases and some don't.

Technicaly, if it doesn't come with one, you need your opponent's permission to put it on one.

But given that some are supplied with it as standard, and it is after all, a skimmer, very few players would seriously have a problem with it.
