So after finally comin back to the table-top after 3+ yrs away, I now own a Space Marine army and an Eldar one too (couldn't decide between the 2 lol).
However after reading and studying all the fluff and colour schemes on each chapter I now dont kno which to paint!? At first I was lookin at finishin up a Ultra-smurfs army that my dad started painting before he passed away... But... Now I am torn between several with the Blood Ravens leading the race - due to the mystery surrounding their foundings - closely followed by the Black Templars... But I jus cant make up my mind lol!! If I carry on sittin here debating with myself I will end up with an expensive grey moulded army lol... Please help wit suggestions and back up ur reasons why I should use ur recommended chapter...

Thanks for ur time... Gd job I got the Eldar of Ulthwe to occupy my painting hobby... For now lol

well, if you cant decide between templars & ravens based on the fluff, why not take a couple of unpainted tactical marines & try out each colour scheme, to see what you prefer & what you paint best.

Go for Ravens, IMHO.

Not that Templars are a bad choice, it's that, honestly, there are few Raven armies out there.

If you're doing Uthwe Eldar you probably shouldn't do Black Templar.

Only fluff I kno about Ulthwe is that they are the Eldar that fought the Ravens in the dawn of war series of books and video games... Apart from that I am still ignorant - slightly wrong choice of wording but you get my drift - to their background!!

I love the thought of modelling a Blood Ravens army, however I jus cant seem to find the rite colour red for the armour?? any tips would be gr8!!

I would go with black spray on the bottom, with a drybrush of Mechrite Red (the foundation color) and a wash of Baal Red, if you have the old Red Ink they used to make, it looks even better.

This will give you a good middle red (Blood Red is too bright, Scab and Gore have too much blue in them). I would go with Khemri Brown on the shoulder pad, with a drybrush or just painted Bleached Bone...that should make it a little easy to 'weather' it.

I think Slowpoke recommended not doing those two since the colors are VERY similar and you will, YOU WILL, get sick of painting those colors dozens of times across two armies.

There's no problem with having both force, the problem is that you never get to paint any colors other than black and bone. You are way more likely to get bored when you're only painting those two colors than when you have more variety.


If it is truly down to only those two chapters, I would prefer the Blood Ravens.

Space marines have been put on hold as couldnt make up mind on chapter, so I got plenty of fluff reading to do with regards to the finding of a chapter!! However started my Eldar now, got my first Grav Tank WIP check out my gallery... Am Beginner so be nice! lol

If you are doing Ulthwe, then I would suggest Blood Ravens as the two armies are often paired against one another in the DoW games.

Also when choosing think of how you wanna play. Do you want a CC Marine Army with no Librarians or a regular Marine Army with lots of Librarians?

Your tank is interesting and certainly eye catching, it is not in Ulthwé colours though...

Very true!! I decided to be adventurous. Dont kno why the purple lol but thought the green looked pretty cool up against it!! Had a think about Ulthwe For a while but thought about having to paint all that black lol... Boring lol

To hell with Ulthwe. Biel-tain FTW!!! But it is your models so your choice. I'll be behind you all the way. IMO I suggest going with Blood Ravens vannilla marines because they have a fifth edition codex.

I dunno bout the 5th edition dex!? Thought it was only a rumour... I am goin for BR's now as they are jus plain awesome in dow2... And I get to have 2 dreadnoughts named Thule and Callum lol... Orange... Orange!! Could be interesting lol
