So, after beginning to assemble and basecoat my Cadians, I've already decided I want to start planning out the next army I'm doing.
It's a toss-up between Daemonhunters or Space Marines(Dark Angels or Ultramarines and their successors on the table) as a complimentary force.

So. How about some help here?

I think Witch Hunters would be great.

You can even use your Cadians as inducted IG force.

Not looking for a Xenos army for quite awhile

Really going for a complimentary army, for display/ larger, multiperson games if needed.

if your really going to go with the empire than i say taking LunaHound's advice. In that way you can incorporate both your armies.

Deamonhunters, becuase:
1) They are uber cool.
2) You will piss off any deamon playas
3) You can supplement them with inducted cadians or something in your early stages.

Why not consider an alternative guard army first, so if you're force is primarily infantry, go tank company, or air cav!

But honestly just not go MEQ

Yeah, go Daemonhunters. I want to do an Ordos Xeno force at some point but lacking the rules Daemonhunters seem to be the best alternative

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

See, I think it's finally time to go MEQ.

My first army for 40k was Tau, my second was Eldar, my third is IG(and I have an alternative Guard army planned out, and have savings directed *exclusively* towards an Elysian Drop Company sometime next fall.) and I'm really looking for a change from the tactical side and looking for an army that I can just shut my brain down and run towards the opposite player with

Do Daemonhunters! They are wicked awesome you dont need a lot of paints and it is like a giant middle finger to chaos players, I know!

IG or Orks.... or just wait for a new non-SM 'dex to drop, because I will not tell anyone to buy into ANOTHER SM codex. 2 is enough.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

After doing a metric butt-ton of research and digging through codexes, I've finally decided on a second army.

Disciples of Caliban have caught my eye, especially given that my most regular opponent is a Chaos Marine player using quite a bit of models in the style of Fallen(for those of you not aware: Disciples of Caliban are a Dark Angels successor Chapter that was ordered to be founded by Azrael, exclusively for the rumored purpose of hunting the Fallen. They're mainly a Deathwing styled army, with Scouts and some Tactical Marine support also. And the idea of a Terminator heavy army is too good to pass up )

If you have Cadians, I suggest Chaos Marines.

Or Necrons, if you're starting in 2011...

I actually have a Chaos Marines army that I share with my father, hence that stays off the list

Oh, OK, then Dark Angels it is!

Though mech MEQ isn't bad way to build it, if your CSM aren't going that way.

My dad's CSM army is a Red Corsairs/Renegades army built up in three 'blocks'.
He's got a "mechanized" army, which is the normal Red Corsairs with Rhinos, a Defiler, and a pair of Predators.
He's got the "Renegade" portion, which is just World Eaters Terminators(3 maxxed out squads, and FW was nice enough with the order screw-up of his Father's Day gift to give us the Khorne Terminator conversion kits for free, along with that beautiful lord.)
Then there's a portion that he's going to be making fairly soon, which will be from the Daemons of Chaos army using Bloodletters and the Khorne Daemon Prince I got him for Father's Day.

But, planning out the Dark Angels is going to be a different story, cause now I have to wait for the codex.

How would a combination Ravenwing/Deathwing army fare?

I believe that double-wing Dark Angels are the best, and most flavorful DA army you can make, intentinally.

Would I be able to also field a few units of foot-mounted Scouts along with those setups?

I suppose, but they'd be Elites without any way to take them as Troops via Termie commander / Bike commander.

Be careful about starting multiple MEQ armies. You can get real burnt out on painting power armor. After Dark Angels, Space Wolves, and Crimson Fists, I'm not as enthusiastic about painting power armor anymore. This was partially remedied by my use of old and wonky models for the Fists. I just started Orks, and painting them has been keeping me sane. It's ridiculously fun to paint something so completely different from what you're used to.

Brother SRM:
It's all good I've actually, in 10 years of playing, never played a MEQ army. The closest I've had was an Ulthwe Strike Force during the Eye of Terror campaign.
