Subject: Latex house paint?

Has anyone tried normal household latex wall paint on models? I need to get a lot of paint for my realm of battle board. I was going to spray it with cheapy black primer from rustoleum, but then I want to drybrush it with browns and I'm gonna need a lot of it so I thought maybe I could get a small can of house paint.. but would it work? or would it be too thick?

It should be fine, I've used those sample pots of paint on terrain before, just make sure your primer is good.
EDIT: Note that I'm not saying use it on *models* because that would be a terrible idea, but it's fine for cheap paint on terrain.

Im sure if you used thinner, to thin the ever living piss out of it........maybe. Im slightly confused tho, are you wanting to paint a BOARD? or MINIS? Im thinking a board, but you said spray paint...yanno.... its confusing in my head anyways lol.
For a board house paint should be fine. Ive heard of alot of guys using it on their tables and whatnot

it's for the GW realm of battle board, it's 6 2x2 plastic squares with molded hills and skulls on it.
I'm starting to think it will just be too thick, so maybe I can just use one of the rustoleum colors that are made for plastic, and then use minwax wood stain and paint that on to shade it

Ahhh ok thats much more clear. Yea I wouldnt use house paint on something like that. Like I said by the time you use enough thinner to thin that stuff down, youd be high from fumes and annoyed beyond help.
Your idea now sounds like a good one. And if its too shiny afterwards you can dullcoat it

I would recomend using Krylon camoflage flat black or flat black auto primer to prime your board, both will give you a good foundation to build off of.
Prior to using any house paint on your game board I would also advise doing a "test run" on a mini or suitable substitute primed with either of the above mentioned primers, just to give you an idea of the consistance of what you'll be working with, and I would also thin down the latex paint and do gradual build ups either using various tones of browns or adding white to lighten your base color of brown.
I would also recomend appling a non reflective/no gloss sealent to you finished board to avoid peelage.

For large terrain projects, latex house paint is all I use. I've mixed up a gallon of my base color in "Scorched Brown" and I have a couple quarts of "Vermin Brown" and "Vomit Brown" for two layers of drybrushing. Latex takes longer to dry than model or craft paints, but the payoff is in the durability of the surface. I had this all mixed about 6 years ago, and I've done two 6'x4' tables, some smaller 2'x2' and 4'x4' demo tables, as well as dozens of terrain templates, and I still have half a gallon of the base left.
Now, the only caveat I would give you is that I don't know how much detail will be obscured by latex on a Realm of Battle board. All the little skulls pits and such might end up losing some detail, so you should either paint those areas with your normal acrylic mini paint or test it out first. Also, you can always thin latex paint with water to see if that helps.

I've used rustoleum with some success, but be warned that rustoleum likes to drip, and doesn't go in cracks as well as the GW stuff. Honestly IMHO there's no better primer than GW's stuff. I used that Dork Tower or whatever model spray and it came out almost like rough coat compared to the GW.
If you've shelled out the money for the battle board you might as well do it up nice. I'd go for the GW black or white, depending if you're doing more darker or lighter colors, and then just use a house paint brush or a roller to get your base coats down, and paint the terrain and whatnot from there. The most important thing is to matte or gloss coat finish the hell out of it, so your paint stays true to your board, and doesn't get stuck all over your models.
I have no experience trying latex paint however.
