I recently acquired some stompa sprues in a trade; mainly two sets of complete hull components. I already have three stompas so I plan to use these for some sort of terrain project or kit--bashed model.

My initial plan was to make two orky bastions from them, then I thought about combining them to make the main part of a larger orky fortress.

However I also realized after playing around with them the other night that It might be good excuse to act on the idea i have had for a while to build a 40k scale Gargant as when combined they make a good start to a gargant sized hull...

Now the question is if I go the Gargant route do I build an actual full on Gargant for potential use in Apoc/display piece, or do I do a partial/wrecked Gargant as a cool (yet exspensive) terrain piece?

Here is a shot of the two hull piece sets mocked up to show how much size they have (with a stompa for scale):

One could build a frame at the top and finish it off and then do an additional "x" inches (1-2" or so) of skirting around the bottom and it will be right in the ballpark for a gargant as indicated by Krooza's size chart. I have yet to see anyone do a Gargant based off of the stompa kits (most likely due to expense) but I already have a good start here.

I'm just not sure which way I want to go (terrain or Gargant) at this point...

Thoughts?

I think a Gargant would be cool as hell. Besides how many people have enough cash to throw around and buy what you have there just to make one? Itll deffinetly be one of a kind! And not an upside-down flower pot!!!!!

Well I do play Apocalypse on occasion.

Also it would be a fun modeling project to build a proppa Gargant, but your right it would be a glorified show piece most of the time, though One could build some scaffolding terrain and use it as a piece of terrain as well like it is in a dock for repairs or loading of ammo/fuel, etc. so it could get use that way as well...

hmmm...

What kinda ork are you? You already have 3 Stompas and you need to ask us if you should build a gargant? I'm gonna need to see your orky credentials.

Good point, I was just sort of looking for validation of my desire to build what will be a fairly expensive/time consuming project that will have limited use...

Of course the Proppa orky response is to build it...

hehe. Agreed. If you have to ASK if you should build a gargant, the answer is "yes".

This idea actually has some merrit. Maybe that terrain could be the smoldering ruins of a gargant? I mean, when something that big goes down, it's gonna leave a little bit of it layin around. I'm just sayin.

A gargant with detachable legs/tracks/whatever, so you can swap them for a 'wrecked ex-gargant fort' base for use in non-Apoc games.
