In the next month or so, FF Dissidia will be released throughout Australia, Europe, and the United States. This will be a major break with previous FF titles in a couple of ways. First, the game will be much less RPG than a fighting game. It is also employs the ever popular element cross-continuity, incorporating characters from across the FF repertoire.

When I first heard about Dissidia, I was skeptical. It's coming out hard on the heels of Castlevania Judgment, another genre-jumping cross-continuity fighting game. "Judgment" turned out to be poor judgment for Konami as the game was generally panned. But Dissidia last December in Japan. The Japanese press seemed to approve as did the public. Dissidia is currently the fourth best selling PSP title there and, despite its extremely late release, was the twelfth best selling PSP game in 2008.

So what have you people heard? Are you excited/nervous about this twist? How do you think it will impact the reception of FFXIII and the many spin-offs already planned for it?

Also, please come over to the Survivor Games threads and play Parallel Survivor - Dissidia BUT please pay careful attention to the rules in my original post, especially if you're new to the survivor games.
