I was looking on the Forgeworld site to finely start that Airborne Guard army I've planned out. I was going to give the squads plasma guns and lascannons to exagerate the the abundance of tech they have, but noticd they have no lascannons. I then looked more and noticed they lack autocannons too. Is there any reason they don't have them in fluff?

Also I don't have Imperial Armor yet so summerize the reason if it's in there.

Also why do the Vostroyans lack meltas, autocannons and missle launchers; Mordians lack plasma guns; Steel Legionarres lack autocannons and morters etc.?

Gathering the Informations.

They carry man-portable stuff, specifically stuff that packs enough of a punch against a variety of targets.

You can always convert stuff...

But most heavy weapons on drop troops is a bit... er...

Anyway, stick a couple of grav-chutes to an ordinary lascannon, if you can be bothered.

I collect:
Guard - 2k of mostly infantry
DA - 2k of deathwing, 2k of other bits (no vehicles)
Sisters - mostly converted/proxy because I'm waiting for therange to go plastic.
Tau - 2k with no riptides because I can.

They need to be able to run whilst carrying the weapon and ammunition. (missile launcher, mortar, heavy bolter)

Besides, heavy anti-tank is provided by multi-melta sentinels and Vultures.

What Scott-S6 put, lascannons and autocannons are larger than heavy bolters. I recall that they have a drop version of the sentinel though, so stick those weapon load outs on them.

Its done for fluff reasons, etc.

Elysians lack lascannons because they are not easily portable by the drop troops, and because the missile launcher is favored as a more effect tank hunter and as a multi-role weapon (which is more valuable to drop troops).

I can understand about the lascannons, considering the vendetta. But how do you rate missle luanchers compared to autocannons? Also I was considering using the Guard codex instead of the Imperial Armor rules until the next one updates the Elysians. (Suppose I won't ever play as DE, DH, WH, or Necrons untill they get updated either) I will still buy the IA for the fluff, and the only thing it has over the Guard is the vulture.

By the way, why don't the other non-Cadian/Cathican regiments that still fight like normal guard not get some of the special and heavy weapons?

It's just that if missle luanchers aren't as good and the 5 points make that much of a difference, mayby I should try the Vostroyans since the Leman Russes are good. Also I like their models too

Hope that makes sense. (writing when tired)
