Subject: Transporting larger armies, like Imperial Guard?

Hey guys,
I have a lot of cases already. I have an old Charon Skirmishpack, an Intersponge bag, a MK II Sabol bag and a Sabol Motor Pool bag.
But none of them seem adequate for my new Imperial Guard army. Reason: all the big vehicles, Valkyries etc etc.
For those of you with relatively mechanized IG armies, how are you transporting them - basically wondering if you have found a "real" army case that works well. I've looked at Battlefoam - I wanted to use their 420 bag but seems a bit too small and the bigger bag (1530?) is huge. How is the Citadel Army case? Workable for this? l looks like it would require major carving to make the vehicles fit.
Not really keen on using things like tackleboxes, toolboxes or gun boxes or tupperware containers, to be honest.
Also, I stupidly glued my valkyries' wings on. *slaps forehead* - way to make it much harder to transport these lol.
(PS - if anyone has a Citadel Army Case I'm curious about the dimensions of the foam).

The Citadel Army Case is just the same foam from the regular cases side by side, if I recall. GW foam is 13.5"x10", so just two of those next to each other.

Cool, do you know how deep the foam is (each tray, I see there are 3 per side)? Like 1 inch trays?

You could try battlefoam, they sell huge bags and custom foam to go in them, really good if you are transporting lots of miniatures and don't want them to break.

They're all 1 inch deep. If you're just trying to carry around a load of infantry models, it's wonderful. However, if you're doing bigger infantry models (Orks, Terminators, weapons teams) they don't fit comfortably.

The battlefoam trays are great for holding IG infantry and heavy weapons teams. I bought a few for my sabol cases, and I love them. They're expensive, but IMO worth it. For vehicles you need to decide how protected you want them. I just carry mine in a big old plastic tub, but nothing of mine is painted much better than table top standard.

I bought a GW Army carrier (LE I think....) and it has 3 trays for standard infantry that fit the IG guardsmen pretty well, can fit about 40 per tray and there are 3 trays. The vehicle one is far more lackluster. Its just a large block of foam with removable squares so you can section them off from each other.
After being irritated with how much room 2 LRBTs and Chimeras take up in that fashion I removed all the foam squares. I still have room for up to 2 more Chimeras.
However, Valks (especially with wings on) wont fit comfortably if you have other vehicles to slap in there.

Yeah, the Valks are my big problem really. I can't believe I glued the wings. They basically wont fit nicely into any case without taking up way more room than they should.

Even though I play Space Marines, I've always been a bit of a tread head, so I found myself with the same problem. I ended up finding a 45 gallon container made by Sterelite that had wheels and would slide under my game table and in the back seat of my truck nicely. I bought some egg-crate foam that can be found in the bedding section of many stores. With that I was able to make a large padded container that I could move around and store easily for not even a quarter of the price of buying a similar amount of storage/transport cases from the various vendors.
