So i was looking through the ultramarine codex and i was wondering why didnt they give the option for you entire army to be "assualt oriented" with ccw and pistol or "balanced" with bolter and pistol ... it would make sense since most marine books ive read are assualt oriented- i dont think this would really cast a shadow on the csm having ccw and pistol and marines would still have a choice where chaos has both- this is coming from a csm player and i still wouldnt fear the marines codex its kinda easy to deal with

and yes entire army would have to be decided which its taking before game and all would have to be same option

I'm not sure but the space marines go in more for using their bolters but chaos space marines come with a bolt pistol, bolter and chainsword as standard--Come to the dark side, we have ccw!

I thought marines did have BP, Bolters and CCW's? If not they are more of a supporting mid line unit, with the special\heavy weapons you dont really want them in CC.
Also if you want the assault orriented army you want blood angels, Assault marine troops, Death company etc.

LOL! I love how you call it the Ultramarines Codex!

And I suppose Tacticals are meant to be more shooty. CSM have Berzerkers for CC anyway and they are supposed to be more assault oriented with less special and heavy wepaons. Tacticals are meant to shoot.

They all come with the Pistol and Bolter by default and can swap the Bolter for the special weapons. They all count as having one attack, but it doesn't say they have a CC weapon. But, the sergeant gets a Chainsword. I'm sure that that's the only CC weapon for them.

and i completly understand the reasoning behind the tactial squads being a support unit im just saying fluff would kinda oint to the fact not all chapters are bolter only- and it is the ultramarine codex if you look through it at least 70% is about them

Because that would cut in on the uniqueness of the Black Templars! See Black Templars get pistols and CCW, Dark Angels get termies & bikes, Blood Angels get assault squads, Chaos gets spiky bits, and Ultras get...well everything else. You would want to disrupt GW carefully thought out thematic design for Space Marines with, critical thinking now would you?

All im saying again i wish it was codex: space marines not Ultramarines and that would really do just that
