Forever alone

Dawn of War II has orgasmic graphics, and the new Space Marine game looks pretty damn good too.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I actually second BrookM with Company of Heroes -- awesome game. I wouldn't say Fallout 3 as much, but it looks pretty sexy with the highest graphics settings on, otherwise pretty muddy and boring.

We laughed - knowing that better men would come,

Best way to test Company of Heroes is to crank everything to ultra, play as the British and fire a cannister round from a Stuart tank at a German infantry squad while artillery is rumbling all around you. As the Germans explode and bloody chunks of soldat rain everywhere, take note of the situation: is the game still running smoothly?

Yes? Congratulations, now enjoy the game.

No? You suck.

The best thing about this game is that tanks actually suck if not properly supported, and Volksgrenadiers can take them out.

Indeed, I remember the first time I took out a Panther with a bunch of outflanking Shermans, it was an awesome sight. Though I am more of an infantry man now, the Panzer Elite infantry make for a good all-round assault force, be it tanks, entrenched infantry or buildings.

I never picked up the expansion, I'm sorry to say. I can't find it in GAME, either. Any good?

I was always a Wehrmacht "Dig in and hold" guy. I'd fortify areas such as squares then clear out either Bocage hedgerows or entire streets, and lob some Flak 88's down one end. The HUGE field of fire rapes armour, infantry, and anything else.

The first expansion is totally worth is, though for me it's mainly because of how stellar the two expansion armies are to me: a highly mobile and hard-hitting SS army and the slow, ponderous but utterly destructive British army. I find the Brits perfect for digging in, with Vickers positions holding roads while 25 Pounder emplacements lay down a nice and steady creeping barrage over enemy territory.

I'll definately order that.

I'm obsessed by artillery that's functional in games, and that sounds insane.

Heard it was an excellent game unfortunately when I tried to enter the key code it said I had entered the wrong one :( .

As for games I agree with Brook.

Oh yes, artillery in CoH is very effective, Most of it is static but with the right company commander upgrades you can turn a 25 Pounder into a weapon that has twice the regular range, can perform anti-Nebelwerfer overwatch, can secure locations or can perform creeping barrages. Same applies to the Priest.

Yeah, I love it in CoH.

However my personal Favorite is Direct Fire, the '88. It could be used as indirect, but not very effectively.

Another game that has spectacular artillery is Supreme Commander. With hitting distance for even lowly guns of something like 4 km away, it's fantastic.

Still got to try that one, I keep forgetting it and oh gak, that's right.. Dutch anti-download company Brein (Brain) has gone and done the stupid: they've managed to block the Netherlands off from the Pirate Bay in about ten days.

Don't get me wrong, I buy games that I like and enjoy, I just prefer to demo or download them first and give them a proper try before sinking €50,-- into it.

I know exactly what you mean.

I tried out torrenting for a while, then I downloaded Fallout 3 that I loved so much that I felt bad for depriving a great studio of £40, so I've bought it both on PC and 360. Some things are worth it like that.
