'Caprica' Bows on January 22nd
'Battlestar' Prequel Anchors Syfy's Friday
Published: 07/27/2009 10:16pm
Syfy (formerly known as the SciFi Channel) has announced that the highly anticipated Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica will debut on Friday, January 22nd, 2010 at 10 pm (ET, PT). The events chronicled in Caprica predate those in the modern BSG series by 58 years. Caprica stars Eric Stolz, Esai Morales, Polly Walker and Paula Malcomson (see “BSG Prequel Greenlit”).
According to Variety, Syfy has order twenty 1-hour episodes of Caprica, though the cable network has not indicated whether the 20 episodes will be split into two seasons or run continuously starting in January.
Yes! Looking forward to this.
Post Torchwood been a dearth of decent "cult" TV, and it's a long wait until the next season of Lost.
Hate that new channel name though.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I was a die hard BSG fan (well seasons 1-2, and 4 anyway). I have no zero zilch interest in this sham tv series.

Caprica is going to be an abortion of a television series, mark my words.
I am pretty much done with RDM after the gak that was the finale of BSG. My wife DVR'ed the "Virtuality" pilot and I just kept laughing whenever there was some sort of mystery element presented, saying "Hey, don't worry about it, God did it, that's all."
The Cylons had a plan...but RDM didn't. The sooner his career ends the better, and perhaps someone with a little more talent can take his spot. There isn't room for too many sci-fi producers in Hollywood, you need to cycle out the old and bring in the new.

I thought the 2 hour caprica movie wasn't too bad. It's a completely different show. It might have the same background as BSG but it's a whole different theme. It's about teeny bopper kids turning into robot terrorists, not a space military action drama. Just don't watch it expecting to see more of BSG's coolness... and I think that's why it's gonna fail. People are gonna watch it expecting to get BSG, and get pissy when they find out it's not the same.

I think we know it's not the same...I also think it's a spin-off from a show that left most everyone I know who were fans feeling ripped off. The lack of care that BSG eventually fell into, the lazy writing, and the utter stupidity of the finale are what will have killed Caprica. No one cares anymore. Caprica, to a point, depended on the success of BSG and the continued interest in its universe.
BSG is now more about lampooning the finale than anything else...so Caprica has lost its appeal for many of the fans, and the BSG audience stopped expanding a couple seasons in.

IMO they did a good job of tying up the loose ends in the BSG finale, but it would have been a lot better if there hadn't been so many loose ends to tie up.

They're being charitable. I predict the entire channel will go belly up soon. The only things they have going for them are Eureka! and Warehouse 13.

Eureka, Warehouse 13, Destination Truth is quite good as are the two Ghost Hunters shows(at least as good as shows about the paranormal/weird worlds can do without going overboard on the OMG IT'S GOT TO EXIST BECAUSE WE SAW IT! angle.)
