I've tried search with no avail.

Situation:

Zoat is behind squad of Termagants, as other enemies fire through the squad which obscures about 1/10 of the Zoat's tail, the zoat gets a 4+ cover save as per rules pg. 22 BGB "Firing through units or area terrain" and rules pg. 21 "When are models in Cover."

Now, the zoat fires focused shot at SM in plain sight, rules pg. 16 "Line of sight must be traced from the eyes of the firing model..." and rules pg. 22 "Firing through units or area terrain...does not apply if the shots go over the area terrain or unit rather than through it."

The zoat can see over the gants, no part of the SM is obscured, he is hit and fried.

Does this work? and if so how about tyrant guard with Dakka Tyrant (2 twin linked devourers) behind gants, and warriors and such? thoughts and references if possible...

The eye of terror.

You've pretty much got it right. It's the same as hiding a non-MC-non-vehicle model behind a short wall (say... 1/4", so about knee-high on most models).

They gain a cover save from the wall, but because the wall does not block LoS to targeted models they do not receive a cover save.

So what's wrong?

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Zoats? They can't have line of sight, they don't exist any more.

However, yes, you are essentially describing the Ork and Grot effect.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I think the real question is: do zoanthropes have eyes? 5th edition has really nerfed my wraithlords... they can't shoot anything any more.

Sounds offishul to me.

But yeah, it's pretty durned neat, isn't it? Enjoy your cover saves, because they beat the heck out of that useless 6++ they have.

I can't help but laugh that this diagram designed to show one thing only, that being the ork not granting the marine a cover save when firing, actually grants the marine a cover save because his foot/leg is obscured.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

So do Tyranids get to draw LOS from their weapon's eyes too then? A fair number have them on the models. . .

I think zoap's have eyes so they can still shoot in 5th ed unlike your wraithlords/wraithguard.

Looks like I'm going to have to bust out the greenstuff.

I think I will model my chaos army with 2" tall eye-stalks too.

Yeah, this is why gaunts are awesome, they convey mobile cover to shooty 'Nids like Warriors, Zoanthropes or Tyrants with guards, while not hindering the line of sight of these 'Nids.

Actually, various Tyranid weapons have eyes on them; Fleshborers, Barbed Stranglers, Death Spitters, Biovore's launchers, Venom Cannons, etc. The Tyranid codex even has a bit on how to paint the weapon eyes in the painting section.
