I am new to the Orks and I could use some help with an army list. The only other people i know that play Orks where i live are die hards and they don't take to kindly to new Ork playaz. So any kind of help would be appreciated. I have some what of an idea but I know there has got to be something better.

I switch mine up from time to time, but I can give you some pointers that you should always take.

Any boyz squad take a nob/bosspole/powerklaw ALWAYS
Nobz always take a painboy. Cybork depends on who you ask. Some love it, some leave it. Honestly Ive yet to see a difference in taking cyborks.
ALWAYS give your warboss an attack squig. Its a free powerklaw attack for almost no points lol.

If your going to footslog take as many boyz as you can, dont skimp.
If your a fast moving CC type, always position your trukk between your unit and an enemy unti that can fire on you. It always sucks mopping up in a CC only to be shot to hell afterwards.
Also dont be afraid to get your boss into a CC. You paid the points for it, you might as well get some ass kicking in before he gets taken out.

Good luck man and welcome to da green skins!

Oh yea, and something I do ALOT is attach my boss to a boyz squad or a nobz squad. All those bodies really prolong his life

@Darth: I'm guessing those nobz are on bikes? If not then what are they doing?

Anyways, to the OP, there are really only two ways to play Orks, that's Green Tide and Kult of Speed/Mechanized-Whaaaaauuugh (Where Green Tide is getting LOTS OF ORKS and Mechanized is somewhat fewer orks but they all have Trukks and battlewagons to move them around)

basicly any ork battle will be orks charging across the table trying not to get shot, while their opponents try to shoot the boyz to death. (A Big Mek with a KFF can help you stay alive during shooting, as can lots of trukks)

Orks tend to have problems with armor, so that's what you bring Power Klawz for (Rokkits work against light transports, but against AV14 you need a Klaw)

(And if you really wanna go really fast, consider adding Wazdakka and going for the biker horde, we'll call this tactic, 'Red Tide' )

2 meks with KFF and PK
6 groups of 11 boyz in a red trukk. + PK nob.
Fill the rest of your points (you will have some) with lootas, kommandos, deffkoptas, battlewagons, looted tanks, or big gunz.

Thanks guys that does kinda of help me decide what to play. I am limited right now but I have a lot of boyz and a lot of Nobz. I have a lot of trukk's too so I shouldn't have a problem. Probably should get some more bikes though.

Bikes are really nice. They get Orks into CC even faster. Which is good. And they get a 4+ cover save from shooting.AND get T5. How nice!

Always take a nob w/ claw and bosspole in every boy mob. Make sure that every mob is maximum size for what you want to do with them. If they're mounted in a trukk then they must be 12 strong. If they're in a battlewagon then make sure that they're 20. If they're on foot they should be 30 strong. If you have some extra points then take some special weapons. I've been leaning more and more towards rokkitz but big shootaz are good if you're short on points. If you need to pick up some points to make a certain point cost then special weapons in boy units should be the first things to go.

When you take nobs make sure that you take a painboy and arm all of them individually so that you can control where the wounds go.

If you ever take kanz arm them with grotzookaz.

If you take dreads arm them with DCCWs or Skorchaz.

For HQ Ghazghkull, Grotsnik, warbosses and big meks with KFFs are the only options for a serious list. If you're taking a lot of dreads or vehicles then take a mek with KFF. Always take a warboss, ghazghkull or grotsnik.

One of your boy units should be 'ard boyz.

If you're going to take Kommandoz then take Snikrot and 2 burnaz. Being able to bring them in wherever you want is huge. Burnaz do more damage than any other special weapon choice that they have.

If you're going to take lootaz then make sure that you can fit in at least 2 units. Take as many lootaz as possible in each unit. 15 per unit is what you want to shoot for.

If you take battlewagons make sure that you give all them a deffrolla. Weapons on a battlewagon should only be taken to guard against weapon destroyed results. Stick with big shootaz and only take one or two. Paint them all red.

Keep your trukkz as cheap as possible. Once again, stick with big shootaz, paint them red and give them reinforced rams.

Bikers suck. Nobz on bikes rock. Either stick with nob biker units or run small biker units with a PK nob and protect them until they can get into CC. Don't count on their toughness 5 or cover save to protect them and don't go out of your way to make use of their dakka guns.

Those are the general rules that I follow when I'm making a competitive ork army. I don't hesitate to play around with other stuff in fun games but a mix of what I've listed is what I've found to be the most effective.

Competitive :
Boyz (led by nob) with trukks, big mek, kommandos, burnas, lootas, ghaz, koptas - in decreasing order of effectiveness.
If i have the points to spare, i would max out the trukk boyz and wouldnt even give the bikes any chance in my army. I would rather field koptas than the bikes if i have the points to spare.

However, the best ork army build is one that is build and experimented by yourself. There are many noobs in this forum (like Elessar) who claims to play orks, within his own group of newbie friends (never seen the world outside), cant excel in orks, and finally chuck them aside.

I like nobz, at least 6 of them with ample powerklaws and other equipment, give em a trukk and a waaagh banner and you'll find that theres little that they cant stand against (painboyz are godsends)

This is my personal preference, but I don't think ard' boyz are worth it for the point cost. Better to just take the extra boyz as bullet buffers. The armor saves will be negated by too many weapons.

Better yet take the inv saves from a KFF.
