Well I wouldn't go into detail, but I've got the Business Version, and it's perfectly fine. Nothing I would change in particular.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

The broad weight of opinion is that Vista is pants.
Some PC manufacturers still offer XP pre-installed.
Windows 7 is reportedly much better than Vista, reaction to beta copies has been very good. MS are trying to roll it out as quickly as possible. It will probably be available for this Christmas selling season.
I should hang on for Win 7.

Yeah, I have had some seriously annoying problems with vista, mainly due to out of date programs that I fish out of the fray.
Maybe it will get better, and maybe Microsoft will be taken over by robotic beetles from Japan... yes they have lasers, who would forget that part!

My sister has vista it's fine for what she uses it for, which is mainly playing one MMO rpg and browsing the net.
Yet I have heard some of my gamer friends complain it gives them trouble in some games.Yet this might be due to the fact that they have the brains of a baboon and not due to the fact that vista is gak!

while i disliked vista at first, after i turned off the "features" i didn't like/need, i took a liking to it.
it works about as well for me as xp did, though its been a touch trickier getting a few older programs to work, though nothing some googlefu and such couldn't fix

I couldn't run my classic games (not even Starcraft), and the amount of glitches drove me nuts. I reformatted my computer as XP again. Trust me, unless you never use any old programs, you won't need Vista.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

As I've said in another thread, Vista is a stand in, a platform they produced in preparation to the release of Windows 7 as they knew it would take a long time to produce.
They did the same with Windows ME, they made ME only because Windows XP wasn't ready for release in the year 2000.
My advice, avoid Vista if you can, stick with XP or wait for Windows 7.

i just find vista has a mind of its own and im forever having problems with it (Ie: it hates shutting down pages, and also likes to have spazzy moments and freeze)

like everyone has said, vista is crap. Vista was designed because they needed to compete with the latest mac release, so they took the windows 7 beta and with a little tweeking turned it into vista. When you know what your doing vista does nothing but get in your way and cause trouble.

Upside: I have found networking, especially wireless, to be much easier with Vista. Like, a LOT faster to hook up.
Downside: legacy incompatabilities.

They wanted to but serious lack of corporate take-up of Vista forced them to continue XP support.
It would only take a few big companies like Sony and General Electric to decide to say "Stuff Windows, we're moving to Linux" and MS would be in deep, deep doodoo. Ultimately they have to keep the big corporates happy.

I would assume that any active MS support would be drastically better for corporate use than Linux would, but I am not sure about that one.
Never got into Linux myself, but I see the advantages.
Linux also sounds really cool, just say a few times.
Linux, Linux, Linux... I should try out Linux a bit .

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

One of the pet hates some people have mentioned with Vista is the enormous amount of memory used on running it, will 7 follow that pattern?

I got vista on my new laptop a few months ago and haven't had a single problem with it.
Sure it took a couple of weeks to get used to the format and where files and programs are hidden but I like it.

My sister has Vista on her laptop. Funny part is, Dell shipped it with 512 MB of RAM and Vista, so it ran worse than anything I've seen. Even with a lot more RAM I still dislike Vista. That's why I went ahead and got a Mac. OS X is nice.

The drop of XP support was announced ages ago, and briefly extended last year.
I do on-site warranty repairs for a certain brand of computer that has been recently mentioned in this thread... and I have to say that Vista is great, for me.
Not because of its compatibility (I use it on my work laptop running OpenOffice and bluetooth to smartphone, not much else - Vista's power options make a lot of difference to battery life; my home PCs are still XP), but because of its functionality. 7 is pretty much the same. People who think the 7 beta is 'way better' clearly never bothered to clear the bloat and fuss from Vista's defaults.
The other reason I like Vista is because OS reinstalls take 15 to 20 minutes. Vista Ultimate takes longer, but you'd have to be an idiot... let's not go there. Again, who is surprised that the half-featured 7 beta installs slightly faster? Not me.
Another thing, mentioned earlier, is the ease of networking. Plug it into a DSL modem and it just works, no screwing around. This is a comparison to XP. As a techie the screwing around is next to no effort, but as a person who works on a very tight schedule, it's one less thing I have to do when setting up a customer's system.
Compatibility is always an issue. Big deal. At least it's not as bad as when Mac OS gets an update ( ). For now, I have to manually update Punkbuster and use the latest version of Protools. Excuse me whilst I moan sarcastically. I still have my XP PCs, so what's the problem?
The biggest problem I have is that they dropped XP license sales so quickly, to make their pathetic shareholders happy. But as I stated in a recent post, in another thread, market politics upset me in general and I can't really comment on them with any degree of neutrality.
That's my drunken rant for tonight. I'm going to sleep.
