How do you guys think Daemons are deployed as either the Defender or as Attacker?
My thoughts first as the attacker. Since everything is arriving as reserve, I presume there's no need to separate them into two forces and you just roll.
Now the defender is perplexing. I'd like to hope that Daemonic Assault is thrown out and you can deploy stuff defensively. If you have to Deep Strike in your defenders, this is horrible.

As attacker: you divide the force in two and roll for the first wave ( preferred half or not ) as normal. The first wave arrives automatically on turn 1, because the Codex in this case has a specific rule that overrides generic Reserve rules. After the first turn you make reserve rolls for the remaining units per the Planetstrike reserve table ( 3+, 2+, automatic ).
As defender: Basically the same as above, all your forces arrive by Deep strike from Reserve. This is actually beneficial to you as the attacker has nothing to shoot or assault on the first turn, and you can react to his deployment. Granted this is thematically a bit goofy ( "Sir? There is nothing here..." ) but as always you can make a house rule for a friendly match that allows some deamons to start on the table ( perhaps representing the situation on a genuine Deamon World ).

As Defender you miss getting Firestormed. That's more than worth it.

However, the Firestorm can still destroy objectives, and other systems such as Interceptor guns. Also, as the Attackers go first, they will be able to Deep Strike straight onto the unchallenged objectives.

Can you fully destroy objectives? We thought you had to replace them with a crater or whatever, and had been treating that as an objective in the case of explosion, or the newly "ruined" fort as is in wrecked results.
I will have to look that up.

Objectives, per se, are points represented by a marker.
In PS it says Bastions should count as objectives - it does not say craters or ruins should.
Interesting point - more reading!

I'm pretty sure it says destroyed objectives are still objectives, unless you did the destroying with a meateor.

It's as I feared, we will have to hous rule this. Deamons are crappy as defenders. If the attackers deep strike and claim all the defensive locations first. Going to have to house rule some changes I think.

Planet Strike is very much a rule breaking type expansion. Much like Apocalypse (or indeed normal 40K outside of tournaments), you can pretty much do whatever you like (so long as it ends up being fair )
Personally I think it's quite fluffy for an attacker to deep strike onto a seemingly deserted world full of eeriely quiet temples. All seems quiet until they start poking about and then the fun begins (much like Aliens really).

Actually on page 16 it mentions that even if a bastion is reduced to ruins or a crater it still counts as a objective.

I second the defender part.
Daemons for the most part are fragile as hell, with nurgle daemons being the sole exception.
So the attacker gets first crack at the objectives....you survive the fire storm intact (d6+x amount of objective S9, ap3 pie plates will hurt bad) and can hit full force.
CD's normally want to go second so I would think defender would be the preferred choice.

I agree that Plantetstrike is very much a "Friendly" non Standard expantion and should be sorted out pre game.

They have something much like this in the fluff of the ork codex about some orks landing a on a deamon world and no one being there
