Subject: Starting to play. Have a 4th edition, worth it to go 5th edtion right away?

Hello all,
After way too long of buying all these Tau models. I finally have enough fully assembled and painted to play a real game of 40k. I have a 4th edition rulebook (it was that long ago) and I'm wondering if the differences between 4th and 5th edition makes an easy enough transition. My roommate has about 1000 points of Tyranids (unpainted, but assembled) while I have roughly 500 points of Tau (that are table ready ). I plan on eventually buying a 5th edtion book. But currently money is tight and I would prefer to not divert other funds towards it if I can put it off another month. But my concern would be if the differences would be great enough to warrant buying it now and starting out with the new rules rather than transition over to them in a month or two?

I would definately transition to 5th. Yea its a big expense to buy the rulebook but its 1 time. And it will let you play with others besides your roommate.

Just buy one of the thousands of Black Reach 5th ed. rulebooks flaoting around ebay for $5-10.
It is the exaact same ruleset as the BRB.

If you buy the Assault on Black reack box, you geet the new rulebook, and a ton of minis, which you can sell to help recoup the cost of the initial purchase. Alternatively check ebay for people selling excess copies of the rulebook from AoBR - many people buy multiple copies of the box, just for the miniatures.

It is easier for many to learn fewer versions of the same thing. Learning multiple versions can cause confusion.

If you haven't played in a while don't even look at the 4th Ed book (except for fluff, pics, etc...). I hadn't played 40k in several years so when I got into 5th Ed it was like I was relearning the game from the ground up (which is good because I don't get confused with 4th Ed stuff).
As everybody else has basically stated just jump into 5th. You'll appreciate it.
