Nice little free download to promote the forthcoming book, taken from the "Heroes of the space marines" collection.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Still need to read that one, I kinda dropped Heroes of the Asstartess after reading the excellent story "the Skull Harvest" by the only big name in the list Graham McNeill. Still need to dig through "My First Space Marine Book" a.k.a. Dawn of War 2..

I really liked "Heros of the Space Marines." I thought all of the stories were interesting and good. "Tales of Heresy" however, I did not enjoy as much, and found some of the stories boring and lame

Only thing I didn't like about The Skull Harvest was the name. Honsou sounds......different.

Meh, I guess it's just me.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

That book is a mixed bag. I'm half way through and I've noticed two things.

1. The title is somewhat deceptive: half the stories so far are about Chaos. Huh.

2. The writing is really hit or miss. Some stuff isn't that good. So far the Salamanders story has been the best of the lot with the Skullharvest being 2nd place.

I bought Heroes of the Space Marines just for the Salamander story. I was a bit disappointed, but I guess everyone gets disappointed with their favorite chapters stories. I kept reading into the story after that "The Labyrinth", I quite liked it. More than a bit predictable, but it does feature the Sons of Malalice, which is nice.

My first 40k fiction read was Graham McNeil's Dead Sky, Black Sun. The writing was okay, ranging from juvenile to tolerable. Overall, I wasn't impressed enough to read any of his previous or subsequent works but can't say I hated it. Nick Kyme's prose is much better. Even though he has very similar themes, his characters are more compelling. His descriptions are also far less jarring and his battle sequences are quite good. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading th book.

I liked that story a lot, admittedly the writing was a bit hit and miss,
But it had a good plotline and it set up the forthcoming trilogy quite well.
I will definately be buying the full length books, as they are the only ones available that feature the salamanders.

So does everybody now that Vulkan He'Stan exists. I liked the Codex: Armageddon Salamanders list I used to play better as I went to the end of 3rd ed in 2 different countries and never came across another Sallies player. Now they're every-frakking-where. It's not the same...

Back (sort of) OnT, I just read Tales of Heresy, and it's really pretty forgettable, with only the Angron story and the Space Richard Dawkins story being any good. I was going to purchase the Heroes of the Space Marines collection purely for the Salamnder story, but if this PDF is identical, then I guess GW just saved me the 8 bucks to spend on Fallen Angels.

Yeah, the proliferation of Salamander armies kinda killed my interest in them, too.
