Here's the situation. I do not live within 90 miles of either a LGS or a GW, that being said I live in a house with 3 40k players(Including myself). What I would like to accomplish is that we: A. Start playing more, B. Paint our stuff, and C. Have a fun time doing it. My initial thoughts were to have a 2 week prep period to start in order to fill the minimum FOC(1 HQ 2 troops) with painted & based models/have a legal 500 pt army that fulfill the modeling criteria. From there we would play as many games as we could in a 2 week period while increasing our painted army to 750 points. We would repeat this until we had a fully painted and fieldable 2000 pt army. My thoughts in order to keep people going(Paint wise) is that if you do not meet the deadline you put $10 into the modeling "Pot". I was thinking this money could be used for Brushes/Paints/Terrain/Finishing our board. I was also thinking about turning this into a P&M blog showcasing the 3 of us intermixed with terrain and the board.

So what do you think Dakka? Any and all comments would be appreciated.

That would be a fantastic idea! You really should do it! That way all 3 of you can have some fun!

Go order your stuff now!

Cheers,

Jack.

Well, being that far away from anything does make life difficult. 2 weeks of prep time can work but can be abit too much depending on the army. Maybe give 2 weeks for the base armies, and one for each 250 point increment after that. 250 points could wind up being 2 tanks, then again it could be 40 ork boyz, it really depends on what you are doing.

The money idea is solid, but ought to go to finishing your board. Turning it into a blog is a good idea, and may force you to follow through on your idea.

As a note on the fun idea, why not make it an escalation narrative campaign. They are always my favorite sort of games, as the outcomes mean more because they effect a story. I guess it is only fun if like that sort of thing, but it's an idea.

I think that would be a really good idea to be honest.

You should create a campaign that changes depending on the games' outcomes.

You should make a blog about the whole experience too, it would not only make a great read, but motivate you at the same time.

Jack.

I've been involved in a couple of escalation leagues over the years and have always had a great time (not to mention it REALLY helped me speed up my painting). Only advice/input I have on it would be to go 250 pts/month instead of every 2 weeks and to have a set number of games that have to be played, by each person within that time frame. The blog idea is great too, and as Elnicko5 stated, it would probably help keep everyone on track (not to mention it would give all of us something else to pay attention to!).
