After reading some things in tactics about assault cannons, and 5-man marine squads, I decided to make a new list.
the Chappy rides with any of the squads, if the squads have to disembark they will try to charge, as they're still marines with 4 power weapon attacks on the charge, +8 regular S4 attacks. The squad with the chaplain wrecks stuff even better, RRing hits and getting more attacks from a pfist.
HQ:
115
Chaplain w/ Power Fist
Troops:
6x
180
5 Man Tactical Squad
-Power Weapon
-Razorback w/ Assault Cannon
Elites:
150
Dreadnought
-Drop pod
-Heavy Flamer
Fast Attack:
70
Land Speeder
-Multi-Melta
-Heavy Flamer
Heavy Support:
85
Whirlwind

Drop power weapons imo.... marines are shooty and will lose to most anything set on assaulting them that is designed for assault.
If you drop all the power weapons you have 90 points left to work with.. maybe give your sergeants melta bombs or something, your anti tank firepower is all bunched up in 6 armor 11/10 vehicles which will get popped pretty quickly PLUS assault cannons don't have massive range.. If your determined to give your 5 man squads oomf give them power fists.
The razorbacks IMO are a poor choice for anti tank. Each razorback is costing you 75 points, and with 6 of them you could bring in some nasty stuff if you drop them. On the other hand it would be interesting to see how the list faired.

5 Marines is much assaultier than they are shooty, and considering there are no options to make them shootier when there are 5 of them, except combi-weapons, I chose the power weapon so they could kill an extra 1-2 MEQs per turn, or kill at least 1 TEQ. I also have a dread that drop turn 1 and a Land speeder that deep strikes, for anti-tank.

Mmm let me know how the list does in a game, as I said I'm interested in how it would do. I have a dislike for power weapons, Fists are always better imo. But I can see where you are coming from marines are arguably the same in assault as shooting, just depends on what they are fighting
Ok I'm spending more time on thinking about this army, and as much as I hate how expensive the razorbacks are I love assault cannons so I'm not sure what to think lol.

75 points is not bad for a twin-linked assault cannon, even on an AV11 vehicle, especially considering it shuttles around 5 Marines and a power weapon, for those targets the AC can't take out by itself.

I get what your doing here, but do you realy wanna play this IMO its gonna be pretty dull.
I'd try and add some more dreads, drop a tac squad, and the whirlwind add two more dreads or some predators. Automatically Appended Next Post: I get what your doing here, but do you realy wanna play this IMO its gonna be pretty dull.

I'd drop one of the Tac squads for morre Speeders. They are too good right now.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.

I use Zap Brannigan's art of war and try to jam enough wreckage in their main cannon so it won't work. |
