I was playing a mate the other day and my marines assulted his waves erpent the sarg had melta bombs .
I got a hit and a pen from the 2 d6 rule on melta bombs and got a massive 2( stuned) ok so far
then he says what ap is the bomb
so i say there is no AP not for melta bombs as far as i can see .
so he says but melta guns are AP 1
so we ended up rolling for it as stuned was better for me at that time than weapon destroyed
So guys whats the rule do they have an AP or not and if so can you tell me where it says so ?

no ap. stunned was the correct result. however, i thought there was some special eldar rule that says only 1 D6 can ever be used against eldar vehicles?

Melta bombs have no AP
Wave Serpents have enegery fields that ignore melta, but do not if hit in close combat or in the rear.

Yeah I got in this problem as well we decided things have no ap unless otherwise stated (but not - ap giving the negative vehicle modifier)

Grenades aren't ranged weapons so they don't have an AP value. Melta bombs also don't have the Melta rule from the BRB despite the name - a bit misleading that. They don't have any bonus penetration to lose against special rules.

That's one reason, but also grenades are placed in melee so it ends up on the serpents rear and completely bypasses the shield.

Yeah, the bonus penetration bit due to missing special rule is a lil grey. I'm sure there has been an arguement on dakka about it, but try to use the melta bombs vs a necron player's monolith and there is bound to be an arguement started.

That would be because melta bombs do not get 2d6 penetration against Monoliths, something about Living Metal, unmodified strength of weapon and 1d6 no matter what...................... Course, if you don't have the 2nd printing of the Necron Codex, yours doesn't say this.

Yep, you don't the 1+ for a Melta bomb.
@don_mondo: If a model get 3D6 pen against a vehichle (but no strength) does it only get D6 against a monolith? (I think it is the Vindicare turbo penetrator) I'm just asking becuase 3D6 is not an extra D6, it is the standard roll.

At one point (4th ed) it was FAQed that the Vindicare shell was an exception to the Living Metal rule. However, that line didn't make it into the 5th ed Necron FAQ. So I'd say that the answer is probably no.
