Human Auxiliary to the Empire

friends and i just got into 40k about 3 weeks ago and were all still building our armys, my Tau are built save for one battle suit and about 6 kroot, but iv begun the painting phase which i enjoy immensely. i tried going with the Borkan sept scheme as i thought it looked amazing in the codex and they remind me of the clone army in star wars a wee bit so i thought id go for it, and it is going nicely thus far, i learn more with each paint job i do and iv'e only done four or five, i must see i thoroughly love converting models while building them, repositioning arms and changing things however i see fit is brilliant, just one question, how many people actually play what you see is what you get? cause i didnt build the first part of my army with that in mind, i just slapped on what in my mind looked the coolest. i didnt even own the codex or the manual.
at this point iv played 1 single 150ish point battle on my friend's coffee table to learn the rules and it was a blast, i cannot wait to add more battle suits to my arsenal and start blowing space marines off the table top. any suggestions for battle strategies will be welcomed and well received, my main opponents will be tyranids, space marines and orks.

Welcome to Dakka. Go to the Tactics forum. Most people play what you see is what you get themselves.
They will probably not complain as long as you let them what weapons, opitions etc are being played on the model. An army list would be helpful to give to your opponent.
