What do you use for shading? Straight black wash or something subtler?

When I do some of my FoW stuff, I tend to use some watered down brown wash and layer it on until I'm happy with the result

I u/c black then wetbrush (a bit like dry brushing but with paint) which leaves crevices of black before a quick drybrush to highlight.

infilTRAITOR - where do you play?

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Good old Devlin Mud watered down about 50% or so does the trick for me.

What's the equivalent of Devlan, Brown or darker like Sepia? (I use Vallejo inks).

@Bubber - Heya, I don't actually play FoW just yet. I bought a bunch of cheap models from my lgs and painted them up as a break from my usual stuff.

@malfred - I know Vallejo do some brown glazes but I've not used them before. I know my girlfriend has a huge selection of Vallejo colours so when I see her later on today I'll be sure to ask

It's a waste of time trying to be subtle with 15MM miniatures, it's best to go for ease of identification. Contrasting colors or a strong color scheme is best. Light/bright colors and a black or dark brown wash is your best friend.

Probably somewhere I shouldn't be

15mm? Bah! Real men play in 10mm scale

On my small stuff, I tend to do bold colours over a black undercoat, leaving plenty of black in the recesses, then use an appropriate coloured wash.

You dont want to use smoke on them - way too dark. Devlan mud is worth buying, even if you are a big vallejo fan. There is a new vallejo game color wash equivalent coming out soon though. Either way devlan mud (or equivalent) is pretty much all you'll ever need for WW2 15mm. For older historical 15mm I'd be tempted to try the grey wash that vallejo are bringing out soon.
