hey dakka...

i've been sellin' off my personal mini collection...
we've reached the end of the line...

unfortunately, new pics do not improve old paintjobs...
it has been fun to show off the improvement over the years, compared to my current work...

first up is a 54mm Salamander marine conversion...
i knew i had to do this as soon as Artemis was released...
this was my one and only attempt so far at sculptin' dreadlocks...
i learned what not to do ...
the nose was a successful bit of green stuff work though...
the paintwork is showin' it's age, but i still like the scheme...

i look forward to paintin' a proper Deathwatch version of this mini, on a nice display base...
for now, here's Brother Joshua ...

next is a Word Bearers Dark Apostle...
this is my version of Matt Hutson's conversion that appeared in a UK White Dwarf back in '02...
when i saw it in the mag, and then saw i had all the parts in my bitz box, i had to build one...
i don't know why we don't see many Dark Apostles, as i think that they are one of the coolest characters...
once again, the paintwork is showin' it's age, and this is another idea i would like to revisit...
enjoy...

this guy was painted back when Codex Armageddon was released...
the less said the better ...
i love the Angels of Fire scheme, and will definitely have to do a modern version...
a captain, or something would be cool...

here's a ratling gun, just for fun...
painted back when it was released, this is a mini that harkens back to the wacky days of Warhammer...
these rats mow down friend and foe alike, laughin' the whole time...
hide the cheese!!!

Rastafarian Marines... now that would be an interesting Chapter idea.

I have to admit at first glance I thought "eh..." but it grew on me and now I think it's actually a very cool conversion. I especially like that the dreads accentuate his charge and contribute to the overall feel of the model rather than just being added as an afterthought.

Of course now I want to see Dreadnought Dreadlocks!

lol, same here, the dreadlocks look kinda odd, but if made a bit better would look cool as, and his paint job is not bad at all, whats wrong with it?

Just a man, standing in front of a paint pot, trying to remeber if I rinsed boltgun metal in it.

Oh there's nothing wrong with the painting. I just saw the dreadlocks and thought HOLY MOTHER OF TERRA WHAT'S ATTACKING HIS HEAD!?!

Then I realized it was hair, and actually kinda cool.

Quite frankly, far superior painting and converting skills to mine, sir!

thanks for the replies...

i agree, and so does everyone else on the other forums...
the dreadlocks were not a successful bit of sculpting...

nobody has mentioned the nose yet, on any forum...
must be because it looks so natural...

if i did this again, i would roll the greenstuff around the wire before i glued 'em in, instead of stickin' the wires into his head and pressin' greenstuff around 'em...
it would make for more uniform lookin' locks...
it's funny though, 'cause not one of my locks are alike...
they all have different shapes and lengths...
they do fly up like this when i run (mostly from the cops)...

thanks for the feedback...
it's good to know that old paintjobs can still get some love...

cheers

I should have seen this comming.

But it's a well done conversion! And the painting on most of these is pretty good, and seems to be standing up to time quite well. (I think the reason that people notice locks>nosejob is because the dreadlocks are bigger and more obvious than the nose)
