In my state there were originally 3 stores that were supposed to hold Ard Boyz prelims. One of the stores cancelled their tournament.

Lets say I show up to my semi and there is a dude there with a ticket from the store that cancelled their tourney. What should I do?

I'd call ahead and see what the two stores' policy is.

I would call GW for a definitive ruling, but if I were running the tournament I would tell him to go pack sand. I feel it is the same as if he were to print one off his computer than show up. As a player if someone showed up with a ticket from a store that didn't participate than it is completely up to the organizers.

Boot him out. He didn't play, he didn't qualify.

That's a crazy one. Definately call GW. I can see where people would say he didn't qualify so he shouldn't play, but I don't see how it's all that different from the multiple stores that had less than 4 people show up.

Turns out my FLGS called and asked GW what to do in this situation.

Backstory: Its widely known that the other local store did not run their tournament (because of M10 release party). Because of that my store was PACKED full of players. Normally I wouldn't care, but as far as odds go, it made it less likely that me or my buddies would make it.

Here's what my store owner posted on our forums about this:

"Ok well you all should know that I have spoken with Games Workshop and their representatives about this very question. I strongly expressed my concerns as well as the concerns of my customers over another store running an event without properly advertising or permitting competition.

I was told by my representative that he agreed it would not be fair if such a thing happened. He did not confirm or deny that it had happened and he did tell me he would follow up again to find out. Having said that, I asked him what i was obligated to do if people from a store that ran such an even showed up to my store with their ticket to play in the semi-finals. He said that I would need to let them play. I said this would be very unfair to those that competed in my store against people from throughout our region. He agreed and said he would follow up again. I also made it clear to him that in my opinion thta if this happened it reflected very poorly on Games Workshop because it is they who really has the power to take action since this is a national event. He agreed and said he would get back to me. I am so sorry that we have such uncertainty around this issue but I wanted you all to know I have followed up on this multiple times."

Basically GW doesn't care.

Imo, this is a much bigger difference than stores that only had 3-4 people show up. Because the other store cancelled, my store had twice the number of people. This made it harder for 90% of the people to qualify, while 3 people are going to get a free pass. I wonder if they got the prize support as well?

This is why I don't even bother with GW events anymore. Last year's 'Ard Boyz event was one giant load of squiggoth poo after another (at least where I lived). Turned me off to the entire thing. Good luck getting some justice!

I understand your problem. My store has an individual that has been banned from any and all events that we run and we where informed by GW that since we where the only local store running the Ard Boyz that we had to let him play. It actually narrowed the competition because about 6 people refuse to even enter the store if he is in it. It is also interesting that we only had two rules disputes and one of them came from his table in the last round. I really wish GW would stay out of local store politics.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

Seriously, if this really happened, and guys got into regionals from a store that didn't run the first event, send me a PM with the details, or have the store owner call me. It's total BS, and I'd love to investigate the situation. As a store owner that runs 'ardboyz, and regionals, I'd like to know which person at GW said they had to let them play.

I thought the stores that ran prelims had to call in the winners to GW and tell them who won. That is why we were supposed to register and have an email address on account. That's how it worked where I played today.

@Mikaila : PM sent

@GBF : They could have made up their own list of winners from their local playerbase. You know, just told GW that "these three players won" and then give out the prize support without actually holding the tournament.

Its a SALES event.. They dont give a damn if people cheat as long as they buy stuff to build their 2500 army lists every round. All my store did was check off that they saw your golden ticket.. Whats the difference between a store that cancelled the tournament and one that had 3 people? Not a whole lot.. Prelims are notorious for being held at stores with no space or barely any players

I think im one of the few who refuses to buy models for 'ard boyz.. I just build really awful YET HILARIOUS conversions and then revert the models back to normal after the tournament is done

Again, its run by the SALES team

Sadly it sounds like ardboyz wich seemed like the biggest and best tournament around, is just junk. Fiascos all over every year :(

Since each venue is at an INDEPENDANT store, it's a total "YMMV" situation.

The tourney I went to for prelims (Dream Wizards in Rockville, MD) was well run with great competition and players all around. Stop the nerd rage because of a few bad apples.
